Gym: The Ultimate Mess

I exited the locker room and was walking to gym class with Kayhari. As expected, she was going on and on about her plans for the play. Suki hadn't really let the script out of her sight, so Kayhari was looking for the perfect time to take a sneak peak and see what it was all about. If she was lucky, it would line up with the plan; whatever that was.

"Lily!" she ran down the hall to catch up with me the moment she saw Aqua and I. "You saw the script! You have to tell me what it's about!"

I was a little started, because she ran at me, but I was getting used to her sudden attacks by week three. "The script? Sorry, but I only got a few pages in before handing it back to Suki."

The pink-haired girl scoffed. "Who said she got to keep it!?"

"No one, I'm guessing. Suki just seems so attached to it," I replied. To tell the truth, the script wasn't hard to memorize from what I had read. "Maybe we can ask Suki if we can borrow it after class today."

"But you always have to go home right after school," groaned Strawberry who was floating right next to her.

"I'm surprised someone as carefree as you has the attention span to predict Lily's schedule," Aqua rolled her eyes. She was the same grumpy cat as always. The pink bunny with little angel wings just wrinkled her nose.

Then Kayhari spoke up, rubbing her hands together in a menacing way. I didn't want to know where her mind had gone, but it was too late. "What if we steal it?"

Aqua and I just looked at each other, not having a response. Aqua looked at Kayhari. "And how would we do that?"

"Well, lets think about this," Kayhari started to write in her notebook, her life essential. "What is a time she would least expect it to go missing?"

"She wouldn't catch us if she was SLEEPING!" Strawberry gasped in delight at her own idea. Kayhari shook her head.

"I like the idea, but then she would know it was one of the girls," she predicted. "I would likely be at the top of her list."

Strawberry nodded her head in understanding. Then Aqua had an idea. "What if one of you steal it during the next class."

"Wouldn't she figure out that it was missing when she went to get her bag?" I asked, completely throwing the idea out the window. "Plus, it sounds kind of risky."

"Yeah, she would totally yell at us," agreed Kayhari.

That's when her eyes went dark, and she dropped to the ground in a moment's notice. I was mid-shriek when Strawberry slapped her hand over my mouth. "She dose this when she has a vison of the future! Remember?"

I caught my breath after a sudden shock as the girl shot up again a second later, livelier than before. "Oh my gosh! Is everything okay?"

"Lily, I had THE GREATEST VISION!" she cheered, and I was existed to see what the future had in store this time.

"It's not like last time, right? With the whole killing Ms. Silvenda thing?" I clarified my worries and the pink haired girl shook her head.

"Not in the slightest! In fact, it's about the play!" she caught my interest. "And it also gave me a good idea for the plan."

"The play? You saw the play? Plese tell me I didn't mess up!" I begged, sweating buckets at the suspense.

"What, no. I didn't see the play. I actually saw the class preparing for the play," she explained. "Instead of stealing it from Suki, we could have her read it to the class at lunchtime. Then we can all simultaneously decide our parts and get used to the script!"

"So, you aren't going to create your usual chaos?" Aqua asked in a sarcastically dry tone. "Shame."

In gym class Ms. Silvenda set up the pairs for the day. It was our usual task to fight someone different in our class each day one on one, to adjust to all types of magic. Today the person I was destined to battle was Lance.

I had tried to fight him once the week before, but I couldn't remember anything after that. When he activated his power, everything became a blur. When I regain conciseness, he had somehow ended up with bruises on his face. Apparently his magic, soul manipulation had backfired greatly, making me do the opposite of what he was trying to manipulate my soul into doing. Hence the name of his magic.

Ms. Silvenda had to break up the fight a few minutes in, or so I was told. I didn't know how I managed to beat up someone stronger than me, and the question kept me up at night. It looked like Ms. Silvenda decided trying it again would have a different outcome. I had a hunch that it would just end the same.

The first pair was Rinna and Owen. Personally, it seemed like an unfair advantage for the boy who could barely conjure a popsicle. All of his attempts melted onto the elegant, checkered tile of the gym. I felt for him, I really did.

"Start!" shouted Ms. Silvenda and Rinna was off to the races. Her quick temper and even quick thinking got her ten steps ahead of Owen. She took the first move, using the ground beneath her to grow plants at a rapid rate between the cracks of the floor. Then Ms. Silvenda gave her a tip.

"Rinna, not to focus on using your magic as much and try to attack Owen physic-

But it was too late. Her magic had already begun to grow rapidly out of control and there was no sign of it stopping. "Ms. Silvenda, it's doing the thing again!"

'The thing' was the flaw in her magic. While the rest of the class has something lacking to perfect their magic, Rinna's worked far too well to the point where she couldn't control it. The small shreds of grass growing from the ground quickly grew into tall vines snaking to the ceiling and wrapping around the rusty chandelier. Today it had gotten worse than normal, to the point where Ms. Silvenda ordered the class to evacuate. That was no problem as Samm was already out the door. "I'll get another teacher, everyone stay put!"

"Rinna, you know you aren't supposed to use all that power at the beginning of a battle," Laura put a hand on the red head's shoulder.

"I know, but I didn't use any effort at all this time, I didn't even think about it," she looked away from her friend. "It's been happening a lot lately and I don't know how to control it."

Rinna's guardian, a small bee with a gold ring floating around it and pollen dripping from it's stomach came close to comfort the girl. Rinna sneezed loudly, alarming the other students and making her the center of attention.

"Pollen, I told you not to do-," she sneezed mid-sentence.

Despite having the power to control the growth and fall of nature, she was allergic to pollen. That wasn't good news for her guardian.

"Is everything alright over here?" an unfamiliar voice approached the group. We all turned out heads to see a tall woman not a day over forty and, in a dress, made from a fabric I had never seen before. Her platinum blond hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and she adorned mud-stained boots. "The tall vines sticking out of the roof alarmed me."

Her accent was quite thick, and the way she talked was just as fancy. Rinna was the first to ask about her presence. "Who are you, miss?"

"I'm just a humble visitor, but don't tell your teacher I was here, alight?" she smiled. "Elise will be very mad that I left where she's practically grounded me."

Everyone was giving each other very confused glances. Where did she come from, and how did she know Ms. Silvenda? I was going to address the situation, but Suki was a few steps ahead of me. "Excuse, who are you and how do you know our teacher?"

Suki's crossed arms and narrowed eyes meant business. "Oh, I don't mean any harm, but it seems you have gotten this wonderful room into a bit of a mess. Allow me to assist you in exchange for the favor of this group of fine children."

The odd woman walked over to the entrance of the gym that had been barred up with vines. She pulled a short stick, like Ms. Silvenda's wand, out of her left boot and waved it around. The class shared even more uncomfortable looks. Was she a witch?

At that moment, the many vines adorned with thorns and small flower buds shrived and shrunk back into the cracks of the tile. Rinna was most astonished at her damaging magic simply being reversed. I could see in her face a little smile of hope. The woman turned back to the group, "Is there anything else I can do for you all?"

"Aunt Lune!?" Ms. Silvenda shouted from across the school yard. Hope and a teacher from another class were following close behind. "I told you to stay at my house!"

The witch quickly slipped the waned back into her boot and winked at Rinna. "I'm sorry, dear. But I sensed danger was near. I knew there was someone in need of help, so I came," she smiled. She was the weirdest person I had ever encountered. "And I was right, you know! I helped this lovely student here with her magic, and she was able to fix the mess."

"Really, you fixed it Rinna?" Ms. Silvenda's face lit up. If it were true, it would have been a major breakthrough for Rinna. All the shocked girl could do was nod in shock at what had happened. I was impressed and Kayhari was blown away just like everyone else. The magical world was always filled with weird surprises.
