Let's run. {Chapter 2.5}

[Saturday 25th of September 2010:]

[2:00]Pm

It had been hours since Elizebeth and I had our last conversation. I had already gathered a few of my things, for I wasn't planning on taking anything more than a few items. I wanted to leave my past behind, I felt like me running away was a new beginning…A new chapter in my life, where I could start afresh and have a new path to roam.

To my surprise, my mother had come to visit me. She only ever visits me for important reasons, which is why I rarely get to see her. A cold chill ran up my spine, as I slowly began to believe that this surgery was going to happen.

My mother was a beautiful woman, standing at the height of 5'6", she had gorgeous cobalt eyes, with blue flowing hair, which she had neatly packed into a ponytail, she had long trimmed bangs and beautiful clips that held them to the side. On her lean figure, she had on an elegant white floral dress, a dress that swept the floor with its flowy edge wherever she went.

People always said she was breathtaking, and always complimented her on her looks, they said she was an angel and I looked just like her… She also wore a diamond ring on her index finger with a silver necklace, accompanied by a golden armband that had colorful decorations on them, she looked like a goddess actually. I guess that's why they called her the goddess Sakurai. Her body was pale white, and she had the longest eyelashes that looked so amazing. Very slim and fit and healthy indeed, I don't blame them for calling her a goddess... But I could never look or be like her. She and I were too different.

Anyway, back on the subject of how we managed to convince my mother, it was with the help of my personal maid and close friend that I managed to convince my mother, telling her that I had fallen terribly ill, and going out to meet this so-called "Suiter" would only worsen my condition.

My mother believed me. She simply nodded, patted my head, and then left without a word. I let out a sigh of relief as I engulfed myself with my bedspread, I was now left alone in my room. Minutes passed, then I believe an hour flew by. Apparently, word about me being sick spread like wildfire, I kept receiving get-well messages from the maids, butlers, and as well as from people who worked with my mother. These people are aware that I have years of acting lessons behind me, right? Did it ever occur to anyone that I could just be pretending?… and besides… It's just been half a day and already this much concern. Then again, why should it matter, it only makes my lie more believable.

"Kai! Kai!"

I heard my name being called from outside in a screeching tone, the person yelling sounded worried. I was taken aback, I sincerely didn't want any more visitors after my mother and the maids. No more maids please, I dont think I can keep up this act any longer!

I did my best to register the person's voice, wincing I would mumble out loud, "Shawn?.." it was a pure guess, and it was correct, it was Shawn, you'd think I'd know my best friend's voice by now.

He busted open the door like some kind of action hero, which made my lip tighten and the edges curve downwardly in dismay. "Not this madness." I thought as I asked myself why I had be-friended a dramatic Oaf. With the little show he just put on, I can already tell what he was going to say and do. Balling his eyes out as he then tackles me, he always did that whenever I got hurt or sick.

"Kaitlin!" He shouted with teary eyes, his gaze befell on me and I could feel the excitement he was omitting from my bed, it was at that moment that I dreaded my very existence. With a deep breath, I closed my eyes and began to speak, "Shawn.." but before I could finish, the white-haired boy jumped onto my bed and was now hugging me. Why do people keep jumping me and then hugging me? Can't we do this in a more normal way?!

The funny part was that I didn't even budge, wince, or yelp, with an indifferent face I said," Ouch." as he put his arms around me and held me closer. I did predict it already so there's no reaction.

"My sweet angel! I hope you're okay."

"You do realize that you don't jump on a sick person right?"

I said with assertiveness, gawking up at him with daunting eyes, he looked down at me then chuckled nervously, slowly letting go and making his way to the side of my bed.

"Apologies Me' lady. I got carried away with my emotions." His eyes fell onto the bed sheets as his hands ran through his hair, I could see a small tint of red on his cheeks. I was especially irritated today, probably because of all the touching I got from the maids and now Shawn. I wasn't exactly fond of touching or stuff like that, so it can't be helped. I smiled and waved a hand to get his attention. "It's fine. I'm not even bothered." That was a lie. He turned to me with a raised eyebrow, moving closer to me with that same expression.

"Are you sure? I can tell you're lying"

"I'm not, I'm okay!"

"Really?.."

"Yes."

"And you're absolutely a hundred percent positive-"

I threw a pillow at him in annoyance, for heaven's sake I said yes, why are you still asking me the same damn question? I could feel the veins popping out of my head as I glared at him, watching the pillow slide off his face. He blinked a few times then stared at me in shock.

"Alright!" Shawn said a tad loudly,  as he did his best to gather his senses back. With a stupid look, he opened his mouth and was about to talk until I gazed at him, "We are clear, yes?" I hissed out, giving him an icy glare.

"Crystal!!" He quickly nodded profusely with fear, staring at me with a puppy-like face. I later huffed and folded my arms. There was a period of silence in the room, Shawn just kept his head down and stared at his hands as I gawked out the window. Finally, he spoke, "How did you fall sick? Have your mother called the doctor?"

"Not yet, but she might. She'll most likely leave that to the discretion of Elizabeth."

"Ah.." Shawn said, tracing off for a bit. He reached out his hand and held mine, unfolding them, then clasping my hands in his… They were quite big. It was only now that I noticed just how different we are in size, and to be frank. It made me have a hot sensation in my chest, and I could feel the heat creep onto my face, thus making them a tinted red. Shawn too began to blush at the sight of me. I looked away in embarrassment and narrowed my eyes in disgust, what was wrong with me? I should be thinking of how ill escape from here.. Why?

"Princess Kai," Shawn said in a serious tone, it caught my attention, so I turned to look at him. I gaped at him with a docile look as he looked at me sternly. "You're not sick, are you?" My heart skipped a beat, I could feel the blood draining slowly from my fingertips. How did he know? I tried to smile as I responded with a bit of a shaky voice, "Of course I am!.. What gives you that idea? Hahahaha." Oh, this is going terribly. Shawn only stared at me with narrowed eyes and a frown. This was so not him at all, when did he become so serious?

"Lies. And I'm sure you're mother knows it, which is why she hasn't called the doctor. Your mother is extremely overprotective and is very perceptive."

Shawn's words hit me like a wall of bricks, I stared at the wall in defeat as I pondered his words, he was so right. She's too smart to be fooled... What's going to happen to me? I need to leave... Right, this second! I jumped off the bed, throwing the bedspread to one side. Shawn stared at me in amazement as he watched me scramble to my wardrobe.

He chuckled a little," What are you doing?"

"Look Shawm, I don't mean to alarm you.. But, my mother is taking me for surgery." As I spoke those words, Shawn stood up swiftly and gave me a face mixed with dread and confusion. "What?" He yelled.

"I know, you don't know about it and you can't understand the depth of it. I'm not sick, nor do I have any sort of medical problem. She wants to change me." I managed to gather the luggage I had already packed up, I dragged them to the door as Shawn watched me in horror. Clearly, with the looks he was giving me, several questions were going through his head.

"I can't stay here, I'm terribly sorry. If I do, she'll change my gender, Shawn!" I said on the verge of tears, Shawn gawked me with his mouth agape for a good second. "Change…Change you're what?"

"My gender!" I didn't have time for this, my vision was getting blurry and my voice was shaking. Shawn quietly Step aside from the bed, made his way to me then hugged me. I returned the hug, I needed it. "Why is she changing your gender? Does she not like you being a woman?" I almost choked on my saliva, I forgot that Shawn knows nothing about my real identity. I gently pulled away from the hug and said with a faint smile.

"Something like that, you have to help Elizabeth and get me out of this place. Elizabeth is busy distracting my mother as we speak. You can help me sneak out of here." Shawn just stared at me with a preposterous face, he shook his head slowly."You're kidding... It's 3:25 in the afternoon, there's no way"

"There has to be a way. We'll find a way." I held his hand in mine and looked at him desperately. He sighed and nodded, "Fine. But what about Nathaniel?" He said with a stern look, I shrugged and sighed. "I don't know."

A brief silence befell us, until I spoke once again, "You will have to take care of him for me from now on." It was then that Shawn looked at me in disbelief, his lips twisted into a frown as he knitted his eyes brows quite harshly,  "This is unbelievable! "I" will take care of him? Kai, this is stupid. He'll miss you too much!! I'll miss you too much.. It won't be the same!" He spoke, grabbing me by my arms and then shaking me as he did. I looked at him a bit frightened and taken aback. It's true that the lot would miss me, but I just couldn't stay. Shawn can't understand, he's not in my shoes. "Shawn, calm down! I know he'll miss me and I know you will as well! But please!" I shouted with tears in my eyes, it was already hard enough at it was to leave and his outbursts were only making it worse. "Just let me go.." I said in a defeated tone. He looked at me with a saddened gaze before letting go of me slowly.

I began once again, "So, When I leave, you must break my bedroom window, to make it seem someone broke in and kidnapped me. That is once I leave through those gates, you understand?"

I would say as I became serious as I pointed outside my window to the mansion's huge yard, just some meters was a gate. " Before breaking the window, you shall count up to five whole minutes then come back inside and break the window as I said before. Got it?" Shawn nodded with a depressed expression, he looked like something was eating away at him, but kept his silence. I smiled and kissed his forehead for some strange reason.

"I love you, you were the best friend I ever had and will always be in my heart. Tell Nathaniel that I love and cherish him deeply and that I didn't leave because of him, so he should push such thoughts out of his head!" I said with a firm voice as Shawn nodded in affirmative action, I then handed him a silver earring, it was a simple one. It caused Shawn to raise an eyebrow, for it was just one and not a pair.

"What's this for?.." He said in confusion, "For Nathaniel. Not to wear but to keep, in remembrance of me. I'll keep the other pair of it." With that I turned to leave with the little luggage I had, the excitement of me leaving was building up inside of me, I had nowhere to go but I was certain I'd find a way. Luckily, I had some money saved up so I'm sure I can find a hotel or something. Shawn quietly escorted me discreetly out of the mansion, we managed to get out without being seen as we then made our way to the entrance. At this time there were no guards, plus this was one of the secondary entrances and not the main one, so we were safe. Before I could leave, Shawn grabbed me by the hand and stared silently at me. "Shawn.." He pulled me close once again for a hug, a tight squeeze. I fell silent and returned the hug, he pulled away and what he did next left me with mixed feelings.
