Chapter 27 Sweet Dreams

The party planning had been on swing, and finally the day arrived for all of everyone s hard work to be rewarded. Paul- Dave s assistant and the entire Davila crew had put in the best of efforts to ensure the party turned out glamorous like all of Dave s rare parties.

Dave hardly throws parties, but when he did throw one. It s usually the talk of the town. Usually because most of his parties are publicity strategies, and that has worked overtime. The crew had the help of Ella and of course Brenda who was in her natural elements.

Dave was indeed impressed by the efforts they all have put, while he was busy with dotting the "I" and crossing the "t" involved in the take-over of the Lewis oils. It was a huge achievement for Dave and tonight the rename of the company will be unveiled.

The party was scheduled to start by 6:00 in the evening, so he came in early to survey things. And he was indeed impressed by the Organization, the decoration and everything involved. He was so happy that he was in a good place with Brenda even if he hadn t told her of his feelings yet. But he made sure he conveyed enough messages with the slight touch, with the intent looks and Brenda being the smart woman he knew her to be got the message quite right. It was there in the shy smile she directed his way. Maybe to night he would finally tell her.

Dave checked his time and its 4:30 pm. He inspected everything to the arrangement of the silverware on the long banquet table. The party would be held in the ball room but everyone would proceed to the banquet hall for dinner. He took the time specially to ensure everything was perfect since he wasn t around for most of the planning. But he must say they all did a good job. He made a mental note to thank Brenda for the great job. She practically helped with everything, the only thing he did was to give the idea of how he wanted everything to be like and she had jumped in and surpassed his expectations. He was kind of nervous. Not about the party but about telling Brenda in words how he truly felt about her. He was sure the office grapevine would be bursting with rumors, especially after he introduced her to the staff as his personal event manager. Brenda had been a fixture in his life since her stay at the hotel and his staffs are beginning to notice. Especially after connecting her face to be the woman he pulled into the storage unit. Tongues are definitely begun to wag. Brenda though oblivious to the rumor needed to be done right by.

He was satisfied so he went to the pent house suit Brenda stayed in. for some reason he liked to stay there more often since Brenda left. It might be because of the lingering smell of combination of fresh flowers that was uniquely hers, that reminds him of her, or even her lingering presence. He just found it comforting to be in that particular suite whenever he needed to stay over like today.

He lay on the massive bed, his shoe-cladded-legs stretched out on the pristine sheet. His mind drifted to his session with the shrink, which wasn t as bad as he feared. She had made him realize with not so many words that he needed to forgive his aunt. Dave was avoiding Cecilia, making sure she was out of his house before he got home. He spent most of his days and nights at the hotel. But yesterday he realized he wouldn t want his Aunt missing this party, everything he d become he owe it to her and to God.

He d gone to the small flat he built for her in his massive premises. Cecilia was so surprised to see him but had thrown herself into his arms and hugged him, right there at the doorway whispering how sorry she was to his ears, while they hugged. After that he had filled her in on everything going on in his life, including how things were going with his business and personal life. Dave smiled as he remembered her excited exclamations when he talked about Brenda and his win at the primary election. They had talked long into the night mostly about Brenda, and she had listened to him like she always does. She had finally told him how proud his mum would be about everything he has achieved. Something Dave always looked forward to hearing…..

There he was in a beautiful garden, between rows of different array of flowers on display some he knew and some were strange to him. He moved along touching the beautiful petals, watching them slid through his palm as he moved along the rows. Someone called to him, it sounded like Brenda s voice. Dave turned around, and she was a distance away running towards him, a happy smile on her face. Dave could feel the smile split the curve of his mouth as he must have the biggest grin ever on his face.

"That must be a sweet dream you are having." The voice pierced his unconscious state.

Dave slightly opened his eyes. The pink glow from the receding sun flooded his bed, making the dark blue of his eyes more pronounced.

"Don t you have the gorgeous eyes ever?"

Dave quickly sat up when he saw who it was, his sitting position bringing him closer to her, as she sat at the edge of the bed, looking in to his eyes like she was seeing them for the first time. As if his dreams had conjured her to reality. She looked beautiful in her modestly clingy dinner dress; Dave felt like he was visited by an angel. "Are you for real?" They were lost in each other s eyes. The hallo from the sun cast it beam on them, giving them a serene and very romantic ambience

"Ask me?" Dave demanded

What? Brenda whispered, her eyes never leaving his

"Ask me to kiss you now"

She latched to his shirt front, not wanting him to repeat his words. She wanted him as much as he wanted her, so no need to be coy or pretentious. "Please kiss me Dave," she whispered

That was all he needed before his mouth descended on hers with all the pent-up passion and longings of the past weeks.

They were lost in each other s arms that they didn t notice a knock on the door or when Ella even entered the room.

"Wow, get a room you two." She said with her usual exaggeration and gusto, her smile was evident in her voice.

They reluctantly released each other

"If only you didn t interrupt, we have one already" Dave said for her sisters hearing, his lips inches away from Brenda s. He quickly placed another kiss on her lips before scrambling off the bed.

Brenda was too embarrassed to turn to look at Ella who undoubtedly waiting for her to turn around. She stood up and walked hastily to the adjoining bathroom, muttering something like "I need to powder my face."

"Yeah, you sure need to do that" Ella said with a faint laugh.

Dave s eyes followed after her till the door closed behind her.

"Don t you have a party to attend?" Dave said when his eyes finally came to rest on his sister. "Wow, don t you look beautiful"

"I didn t think you would notice giving you only have eyes for Brenda."

Is there something burning?" Dave laughed, "I smell jealousy"

Yeah right, like I would want my brother s boring attention when I have tons of guys begging to have mine"

"Just warn them all not to mess with you or they will have themselves to blame." He said with fake annoyance.

"Calm down Bro, you should be worry about guys running after Brenda. She is beautiful." Ella said in true admiration.

"That she is" his eyes went to the bathroom door that was still closed.

"Watch it Bro, your armor of playboy is slipping." Ella said with a small laugh. "You need to see the look on your face right now. You are smitten Dave!"

"Okay, would you excuse me; I need to get dressed now. My guests are waiting" He shooed Ella out of the room.

He closed the door on Ella as she was saying "You d better don t go back to making out. I will be back in 10mins sharp, if you are not down stairs by then."

The rest of her words muffled by the door, but he heard them quite right. He checked the time already 5:10pm. He must have dozed off, and that kiss…. It was worth the wait. Dave smiled and proceeded to the walk in closet, to get his suit. "Are you going to stay there all night Brenda? We have guests, waiting." He hollered from the room. Great things were definitely happening to him since Brenda walked back into his life. Take the dream he had for instance. He had never dreamt so sweetly in a long time. He couldn t even remember the last time he had the nightmare that was constantly hounding him.
