"I'm sorry, Dad. I know that lying is not a good habit. I won't lie anymore and won't make you lie for me. I want to be an honest and good darling."
George heard Ivy say this and knew she was serious. However, he didn't expect her to completely stop lying all at once. He knew that there would be many special situations in her life where lying would be unavoidable. So, he patiently explained it to her.
"Ivy, Dad doesn't want you to lie, but that doesn't mean you can never lie. You should learn to discern when a white lie is necessary. Of course, this might be a bit early for you. Many things need learning over time, so you can gradually understand and eventually know when to use them appropriately."
Ivy listened but was confused, as she didn't know what a white lie was. Wasn't saying she was sick to avoid going to school and listening to boring classes, rather than telling her teacher the real reason, a white lie?
