C79: The Aftermath

The whole place fell to silence after the countless screams that boomed throughout the whole city.

Alan's gaze fell upon the woman as she stepped into the city once more.

The red-haired woman disappeared into the city streets. Alan kept gazing at her as she stepped away from the boundary.

'What a woman... A Midnight? Saving children... I don't know how she got in, but...' Alan breathed in with pride.

'I gotta admit... You're a... Good human.'

Alan turned back to gaze at the little girl and her mother. The mother was still holding on to her daughter who was now wiping her eyes from the mother's dress.

The mother caressed the daughter's head as she slowly raised her, taking the little girl up to her arms.

Alan crouched beside the mother and he placed his hand on her back and slowly caressed her back.

"Sorry... I couldn't save you all. I was powerless," he said with a dark expression on his face. "Only if I was a little faster. I could've saved your friends..."
