Introduction

I give a big shoutout to Dave Herring for the free image used as the cover of the book.

Note - This auxiliary chapter will be updated from time to time as the story progresses further.

The story is set in an alternate version of ancient Japan, full of fantasies and wonders.

The city's political affairs are run by the King and the senate, with all matters concerning security affairs handled by the official military.

Political corruption and matters too delicate for the official justice system or the kingdom's official military to handle are managed by an underground covert organisation known as The Sukunaku.

The Sukunaku is the city's league of assassins dedicated to maintaining peace and order within the kingdom it consisted of trained killers known as operatives whose ranks and abilities are sorted into levels based on their capabilities and accomplishments.

The hierarchy of the operatives of the league ranked from class C to class S representing the quite obvious levels of difficulty.

C referring to REGULAR operatives,

B referring to PROFESSIONAL operatives, and then,

A referring to ELITE operatives

The operatives were ranked according to their accomplishments by class, as having a given number of straight successes in regular (C) missions ensured promotion to the professional (B) class of operatives, and so on.

This is how the Sukunaku was operated, and it is a clear way of rating the power levels of every operative.

The story takes place in the Fictional City of Langford. It was a city built by foreign missionaries with the hope of spreading their religion in the continent through its beautiful home of worship known as the Kristos Basilica.

That was why the name of the city sounded foreign to the average Japanese resident as it was indeed a foreign name.

The enforcers are a group of expendable ex-convicts and outcasts charged with the mission of spreading the Empire's powerful rulership over the continent.

This was made achievable through the inputted power of powerful gods and monsters known as fables into these people, making them fable men.

Fable men were people with the ability to manifest the power of legendary gods and monsters through either their physical forms or by harnessing their abilities.
