In this universe, there exists as many daos as there are stars visible in the night sky.
Wait, that's not right. It is more apt to say that there exists as many daos as there are stars in the universe itself.
Hmm.... that also feels wrong to say. If I had to word it another way, there should be as many daos in existence as there are stars in the universe, over the full course of the universe's own existence.
If I had to differentiate those three points, I would do so in the following method:
The stars visible in the night sky would be considered those daos that are common or famous within the world as it is today. This would include daos such as the basic elements of fire, wood, metal, earth and water, or even ones such as the sword or any other weapon Dao to exist. These as usually the ones people usually think of when asked to give an example of one's Dao.
As for the number of stars in the universe itself, this would include the previous example, along with some rare or obscure daos. Examples of rare types of Dao include time, space or even life and death. While knowledge of these kinds of Dao exists, said knowledge is hard to obtain in the first place and even that knowledge would barely cover the basics as person's who've cultivated these rare daos won't share their secrets with others, as doing so would only come back to bite them in the long run.
As for the obscure types of Dao, these would include the Dao of alchemy, talisman creation and pull refinement. The reason for obscurity with these daos isn't due to lack of information, but rather, too much information that only suits individuals or small groups, as opposed to larger sects. For these obscure daos, cultivators are required to strike out on their own and develop their own methods in order to advance further after learning the basics of each. That isn't to say that person's can't follow in the footsteps of their teachers or family members, but that they would never be able to go further than the person they choose to follow if they followed the same path. Even worse, based on their own talent and comprehension ability, they may not even be able to reach the end of the path already laid before them, so it's better for them to make their own paths, struggling through the Muk and grime in order to see the 'light at the end of the tunnel'.
As for the final point, the total number of stars to exist in the universe of it's entire lifetime, this includes another group of Dao. These Dao usually die out or get forgotten with time. As for whether this is done by the universe itself or the Dao suffering as a consequence of time itself, no one would be able to tell. Examples of these forgotten Dao include the Dao of origin, void and creation. Whether it is due to the very nature if these Dao, the steep learning curve that each Dao requires, or even the rare opportunities that one would need in order to even get a glimpse of these dao, they were eventually forgotten and knowledge was lost to time.
On the flip side, with the passage of time and the advancements of different cultures, new daos are formed. These daos can be a different interpretation of an already existing which results in a new form, a new Dao created from the unlikeliest of sources, or a combination of the two. Either way, these are Dao that are unknown to most and cultivators of these Dao can range from very powerful to very weak. Examples of this kind of Dao would be the Dao of Obsession and the Dao of Heat. Both are basically daos marred in obscurity due to a cultivator's own peculiarity and comprehension. As for their potential strength when compared to the previously mentioned examples, I'll refrain from giving an opinion on this. If I must say something on the matter, it would be that it is ultimately the cultivator that shows how strong each Dao is and leave it at that.
Now that all of that has been explained, let's look at the Dao of Entertainment. To properly categorize this Dao, its peculiarities must first be explored.
In terms of popularity, this Dao is relatively unknown as its source of power, entertainment, is quite rare in the world of cultivation due to the solitary nature of cultivators as a whole.
That said, this source can be easily obtained from mortals. Unlike cultivators, mortals seek entertainment daily and this provides cultivators of the Dao of Entertainment plenty of resources. And due to the specifics of the Dao Of Entertainment, cultivators of this Dao tend to pick up and practice a myriad of other daos in order to further increase their own understanding of the Dao of Entertainment. In this way, the Dao of Entertainment can be considered as a combination of many other Dao. Conversely, the Dao of Entertainment can also be considered as the source of many other Dao, depending on your own view of the topic.
In this way, the Dao of Entertainment would fall into the third category, due to its unique nature and practice method. That said, it is not a Dao that should be underestimated as entertainment, by itself, covers many forms and cultivators capable of utilizing the many sources of entertainment around them are a force to be reckoned with.
