Margaret wanted to kiss her hands out of gratitude, but Virginia stopped her.
"Don't, Margaret. Please don't do that" Virginia resisted pulling her hands away. "You may feel remorse for the past, but you know I never held a grudge against you. I have always loved you and I still love you. I wanted so much to be close but you avoided me so strongly. And the worst part is that I never understood why."
Margaret looked at her sullenly.
"Come with me." She gently pulled her by the hand.
"Where are we going?"
"Somewhere to be alone. I want to explain to you. And I'm sure you will understand me. "
"Okay, then."
They went to Margaret's room, and Margaret bared her heart to Virginia. She confessed that she was terrible manners on her because she envied her. When Margaret told her about Augustine and how much he desired Virginia and not his wife, Virginia was left with her mouth open.
"Oh, Margaret, I am so sorry. I had no idea. I had never realized of anything. Forgive me for the great harm I did to you." She hugged her tightly, crying.
"I have nothing to forgive you. I shouldn't have treated you like that, you weren't to blame for anything. But you don't have to worry. Things have changed."
Virginia let go of her arms and looked at her.
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know what has changed, but Augustine is now madly in love with me. He treats me more beautifully than ever. After many years I am truly and deeply happy."
"Oh! This is amazing! I'm so happy for you. For both of you, it had must be hard for Augustine to suffer by craving a woman he knew he would never have.
He hadn't shown me his feelings all these years because he knew very well that I would never give in to his love. Because firstly I loved my husband madly, and you know it, and secondly, I would never do such a thing to my flesh and blood no matter how you treated me." Virginia looked at her and smiled at her. "And since we're talking about him. Have you informed him about bringing Adela to my house? "
"Not yet. I wanted to ask you first."
"Did you have doubts about taking Adela at my house?"
Margaret lowered her head.
"It doesn't matter. I understand. So, ask him to see what he will say. This is the right thing to do for your husband, and especially now you are doing so well. I'm sure he will accept. Augustine loves your children, he would do anything for them. When you talk to him, let me know to come and get Adela."
"I will do that." Margaret gazed at her and continued, "Tell me the truth Virginia, do you think Adela will recover?"
"I can't hide from you that I am kind of worry about it Margaret. I want to believe that she will recover. I wish it from the bottom of my heart. Which doctor did you call to see her? "
"Dr. Levi."
Virginia looked at her thoughtfully. "Okay. Dr. Levi is a good doctor, but when Adela comes to stay at my house, would you mind if I call another doctor? He is very good at his job and he is also my friend. I have complete confidence in him."
"Yes, Virginia, call him. I trust you. Who is this doctor? I may know him. "
"It is Dr. Mason."
Margaret thought for a moment. "Yes, I think I've heard of him before. If the information was correct, he lives on the other side of town."
"Yes, your information is correct."
"The truth is that I had forgotten the existence of this doctor. My mind had gone directly to Dr. Levi because he is our family doctor."
"Yes, I understand. You called someone who knows you all very well, and you did well. And I will call the one I know, and I am sure that he will take care of our Adela. There is no need to worry, and as soon as I call him, I will immediately send you a note with everything he will say to me.
And I don't think I need to tell you, but you can come and visit Adela whenever you want and without first notifying. You are always welcome at my house. You always have been."
Margaret's eyes watered, and she squeezed Virginia's hands in hers. "You are such a good woman Virginia, and I'm really sorry I refused to see this in all this years."
Tears rolled down her cheeks, and Virginia wiped them gently.
"Don't think about it now. I already forgot them. Please do the same. I ask you as a favor. Will you deny me this favor?" She asked her gently.
"No, I will not deny you. I will do it".
"I'm happy about it. Well, I'm going to see Adela again and greet her with a sweet kiss. And as we said, as soon as Augustine returns, talk to him and let me know, even though I am sure about his positive answer."
"Okay. I am so lucky to have you." Margaret told her in a trembling voice and fell into her arms full of gratitude.
When they got apart from the hug, Virginia went upstairs to Adela's room. She talked to her, caressed her hair, kissed her on the forehead, and left.
Margaret did as Virginia advised her. She spoke to Augustine, and as Virginia had predicted, he didn't object. She also told him about the doctor that Virginia wanted to call at her house for Adela.
"We will do whatever it takes for our daughter Margaret. If the doctor suggested this, let's try it. And yes, let her call the doctor. Maybe he can help our daughter."
So, the next day Adela was safely transported to Aunt Virginia's house with Agnes, of course; she disagreed with being left behind, and Virginia gladly accepted her at home, knowing the close relationship she had with Adela.
Virginia allotted Adela the sunniest room of the house. Its large windows overlooked the magnificent huge garden.
The next day, Virginia sent a maid to call for the doctor. And she gave strict order to tell him that she needed him to come urgently.
Virginia and Agnes waited for him with great anxiety until the knock on the door made them jump out of their seats. They hurried to the door.
"You can go back to work. I will open the door." Virginia dismissed the maid who was going to open it. The maid obeyed and walked away with quick steps.
Virginia opened the door, and Dr. was standing in the doorway carrying his sizeable medical bag. As soon as he saw Virginia, a broad smile spread across his face.
Virginia smiled back at him. "Welcome, Mason. I was waiting for you. Come in."
Dr. Mason entered the house. As soon as Agnes saw him, her eyes opened wide, and she swallowed hard, but she behaved smartly and didn't make any comments.
"I am glad to see you, Virginia. Your envoy told me that this is something urgent. "
"Yes, Mason, it is urgent, but not for me, it is about Adela."
While she was leading him to Adela's room, Virginia explained everything about Adela's case.
"Please help her, Mason."
"I will do my best, Virginia. Let me firstly examine her to have a picture of the patient and we will talk again later," he told her, and his voice was reassuring.
"Okay. Here we are. This is her room."
Virginia opened the door, and they entered. Agnes found it right to stay out waiting for the doctor.
Dr. Mason approached Adela, who was lying on the bed.
"Hello, Adela," he began to say to her. "I am Dr. Mason and your aunt called me to see how you are. I will examine you. I will not hurt you at all." He told her, but Adela kept silent and did not look at him.
The doctor sat next to her. She took her pulse. Check her forehead for fever. He checked her vital organs by pushing in various places. He told Virginia to prepare Adela so that only the patient's naked belly would be exposed to his eyes.
"Her body is completely healthy," he said when he finished and looked at Virginia.
"But I will try one last thing." He said and put his finger in front of Adela's eyes and moved it left-right. Adela didn't follow it with her eyes as she should, and her gaze remained fixed on the void.
The doctor sighed. "Has she been in this situation since then?" asked Virginia.
"Yes, Mason."
"Organically, she is fine, so she must have suffered a terrible shock. The problem is in her brain and to what it has recorded. I don't know what exactly it could be, and it can be anything.
I will give you a bottle with a liquid made of herbs. You have to dissolve two drops in water twice a day, morning and evening. For today, give her only two drops in the evening. On the fourth day, increase the drops to three, on the seventh day at four, and the tenth at five drops. When you reach five, stay at five at a time, so ten drops a day. I would prefer if you, Virginia, prepare Adela's medicine every day."
