Chapter 64

Back at Aunt Virginia's house

Robert approached Emily, sitting with her head slightly bowed and still a little blurred. He stood in front of her and went down on his heels.

"Emily?" he gently placed her finger under her chin and slowly raised her head to his eyes. The girl looked at him and, at the same time, felt her cheeks burning from the intensity of their gaze.

"I have been looking for you since the very next day that dawned from that ball, and I finally found you! My mind went rest now, but my heart is biting so fast." His eyes were nailed to her eyes, waiting for a reaction from her. He wished she would tell him the same, and now that they found each other at last, they never wanted to separate again.

But he didn't hear any of what he hoped for from Emily's mouth. Not a word. He broke eye contact with her and lowered his head. He covered his face with his hand, grateful that Emily couldn't see the tears that had gathered in his eyes.
