Several police cars were chasing an armored SUV while being fired upon. Jack saw this while he was on his nightly patrol so he decided to help out.
Jack flew down and began to fly beside the driver's side. He knocked on the window and signaled for the man to let it down the window. The criminal looked shocked and subconsciously rolled it down.
"Hey, guys. Do you wanna stop shooting at the cops, pull over, and surrender to the police? You don't have to. I would have to get involved in this if you don't though."
None of the men responded with words but the driver and man sitting behind him both opened up fire on Jack. The bullets struck Jack's body but they all fell to the ground after bouncing off his skin.
"So you have chosen death. I suggest you slow it down a bit otherwise this will end very badly."
Jack created a sheet of ice underneath the car and extended it up the street. He also created small walls along the side before morphing the ice into a half-pipe.
As the car drove further and further, it began to slide several degrees along with the pipe until the car had moved a full 180 degrees and was upside down. Once it reached the top, the car fell down and crashed onto its roof.
Jack flew next to the car and made sure that none of the criminals had died in the crash.
"Luckily, you guys listened to my advice. Could have really gotten hurt if you were still going over 80 miles per hour."
Jack dismissed the ice that was blocking the police behind them before flying off. This was the last thing he planned to do on his patrol before he returned home.
The police watched Jack fly off with admiration in their eyes. Jack had saved the two children a month ago and caught the attention of many. He was attractive, charismatic, had a soft spot for children, had flashy powers, and a great name. Thus, many eyes began to focus on him and appreciate him.
Jack had returned to his apartment and landed on the balcony but was surprised when his dog didn't come to greet him like usual.
"Bean? Bean, where are you? You sleeping, buddy?"
Bean was Jack's dog. It was a 6-month-old, brown mini-poodle he got from a breeder. Although he only had the dog for a couple of weeks, he loved the dog very much.
Jack walked through the door and was surprised to see his dog sitting on the lap of an unknown man. Well, a man he knew but had never met in person.
There were 5 people in the apartment, including Jack. Two men, each having an eyepatch, sat on his couch. The white one of the pair was staring at Jack while the black one was rubbing Bean's belly. On each of the other chairs were Spider-Man and Captain America.
"You should really teach your dog to be wary of strangers," Nick Fury III said as he began to scratch the dog behind its ear
"He's a mini-poodle. Even if I teach him to be wary of strangers, a child could pick him up with one hand and take him away. Might as well let him live a carefree life," Jack responded indifferently
Spider-Man laughed at this comment. Few people would state it this way but it was true to the point that no one could fault him. The dog barely weighed 7 pounds.
"Well, kid. I will get straight to the point," Captain America started, "The Avengers have been scattered due to an event. We need to reform our ranks.
I've seen your skills. You are very good at controlling your powers and using an appropriate amount of force. But more importantly, you have a good heart. Are you interested in a position?"
Jack was surprised and didn't expect that he would be invited so soon. He was very interested in what happened to the Avengers but didn't want to risk asking about it at the moment.
'I can figure it out later. I'm sure there are a few SHIELD agents whose minds I could read and get that info from.'
Jack put on his most obedient smile as he looked toward Captain America
"Sure. Who else is on the team?"
"In total, there are 18 of us so far. We plan to make that number 20 though. We want to be able to deploy smaller squads of 5 to handle various tasks that are required of us.
As for what squad you will be on, that is still undecided. When you come to Avenger's Tower next week, we should have the final members and squads worked out," Nick Fury the 1st declared from his seat
Jack nodded at this. He didn't really care who he worked with. His main objective had been completed so he was feeling a bit giddy. He only had one more question.
"Can I bring Bean with me or are no pets allowed?"
Hearing this question, Spider-Man began laughing hysterically while the other 3 present just shook their heads.
"Yes, pets are allowed. But... never mind. You'll figure it out when you get there."
Jack thought their reaction was weird but decided to ignore it. The group talked for a little longer before the 4 took their leave and left Jack to start packing his stuff.
While in the Quinjet, Captain America turned to Spider-Man to ask him the question he had been asking all day once more.
"Are you sure he can be trusted?"
"Definitely, Cap. I'm not just recommending him because he saved Mayday. I've had the chance to work with him a few times and also observed him in secret over the past month. He has the makings of a great Avenger and an even better hero."
Captain America chuckled when he heard that.
"Your daughter is going to hate that nickname you came up with for her?"
Spider-Man laughed in response
"She has both me and MJ on edge most of the time. We know that when we call out her name like that, the other needs backup."

Pick the squad. Or don't. He won't be leader of it so we need someone with leadership skills as well
