Issue #2

The young mutants that were training room were surprised when the sentinel they were fighting suddenly shut down. They began to talk among themselves about what happened but were interrupted by the voice of Scott coming over the intercoms.

"Sorry, guys. Something just came up. Head back to your classes and we will continue this later. Storm, come meet us in the Professor's office."

Most of the students looked disappointed while a few looked relieved. They knew that they had overestimated themselves and wouldn't be able to beat the sentinel. But since the session had been canceled, the other students wouldn't find out about it.

At least that is what they thought before Ororo spoke up dumped a bucket of cold water on their moods

"There is no need to continue, Scott. These students have failed to inflict any serious damage on the sentinel or create any wounds that would allow for more damage later. This simulation has ended in their familiar," Ororo declared coldly

None of the students refuted her. Ororo was the most liked and respected teacher at the school so when she spoke up, the students listened. So while they grumbled about how they were confident in taking down the sentinel, the students walked out of the Danger Room without trying to fight the result.

Ororo left the danger room and quickly made her way to the Professor's office where everyone was seated. When she saw Jack, her eye lit up a little.

"Jack. It's been awhile. I assume that the 'Something big' has everything to do with you?" she asked rhetorically

Jack nodded at the older woman and didn't reject it. Whenever he came around the mansion, or at least when they noticed the times he came, it was usually for something big. So it was no suprise that Ororo instantly guessed it correctly.

"As I told the others, I am here to recruit two of the X-Men to the Avengers. There has been a shadow-ban on mutants joining the team cause of Magneto and the negative public opinion on mutants. With me being the exception since they thought I was a mutate at first.

I've been working my ass off on missions to show that plenty of mutants can do great things as well as the many issues mutants are going through while the Avengers sit on the side. So since 3 of the members or my original squad left, I was able to secure 4 spots to create the first mutant only squad."

"Wait," Jean interrupted. "You said you have 4 spots? Why are you only inviting two members from the X-Men then?"

Jack had been thinking about how to explain it best since he first arrived and come up with his answer that could be considered the half-truth.

"Two main reasons. The first is that the X-Men are a good team. You all do amazing things for the mutant population. If I take too many members, that will weaken the X-Men's abilities to handle matters.

The other reason is because, the world doesn't revolve around your group. While you may have some of the strongest mutants on the planet, you don't have all of them. I want the world to know that just because a mutant is not an X-Men, it doesn't mean they can take advantage of them."

Logan snorted when he heard this.

"So you are gonna recruit the other members from the Brotherhood then."

Jack shook his head before nodding.

"I didn't say that. You may have heard it and I may have meant it, but I didn't say it."

Logan snorted again while the others laughed. Jack's personality was a breath of fresh (winter) air.

"This is a welcome surprise. By having more mutants join such a famous and popular team, the day that humans and mutants can peacefully co-exist seems to be getting closer. So child, who were you thinking about recruiting into the Avengers?" Xavier asked

Jack took a deep breath. The duo that he had planned on recruiting had a bit of... history to them. One of them especially so with the Avengers.

"Oh you know. I was considered all the X-Men. Cyclops is a great leader, Shadow Cat has potential, and Magik is really coming along these years," Jack started off talking about the various members and saying positive traits about them each. "But I was thinking... Rogue and Revanche."

The room instantly descended into an uncomfortable silence. One could hear a pen drop. After a few seconds, the X-Men all came out of their stupor and began to speak all at once.

"Oh my gosh! He's kidding, right? Right, Peter?!"

"This does not seem wise."

"Hahahaha! This guy is a fucking madman! I told you all before but none of you listened to me."

"I hate to say this, and I mean really hate to say this, but Wolverine is right. This guy is a madman."

Rogue and Revanche both had histories so complicated that the list of reasons why they should be on the Avengers was shorter than the list of reasons why they shouldn't.

Revanche's real name was Kwannon. Kwannon was a former assassin that worked for the Japanese Yakuza and The Hand and was also an empath. The number of people that had died by her hands personally could reach the triple digets.

She would still have been a member of the group if not for them switching her body with a member of the X-Men and her memory getting messed up as a result. After the original girl that she switched bodies with returned, there was a bit of conflict before the two settled on remaining in the team since Kwannon had a change of heart.

Although the Avengers weren't averse to former assassins and killers(Black Widow, White Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Ghost Rider, Thor), inviting Kwannon was still something that was a risky move for Jack. But Jack needed a telepath and Kwannon was the best telepath with direct combat experience.

Rogue was another story all together.

Rogue had originally been villain that fought the X-Men and original Avengers on numerous occasions. Using her powers to absorb the powers of other superpowered beings, Rogue was able to take on entire rosters of heroes by herself.

But what really made Rogue become a hero and also the incident that would create the strongest reaction against her becoming an Avenger was the fact that she had killed an Avenger. Rogue killed Ms. Marvel 4 months prior by absorbing her life-force and powers before throwing her off a bridge.
