Issue #21

It was finally time. All the students had been looking forward to this day the most since this was their chance to show off in front of their peers, earn the approval of the X-Men, and also get a chance to join one of the training squads.

Today was Field Day.

The entire day would take place in the 5 odd acres of open land behind the institute so that the students and staff could compete without fear of damaging any property.

It was currently divided into 3 parts of the day. The first portion of the day was the teacher/staff competition. These were the battles that would take place between the members of the various X-Teams to show off who was the strongest.

There were two brackets for the staff competition. On one side were the males and on the other were the females.

The women's bracket ended the fastest. On that side, there were only 2 competitors. Storm and Shadowcat. But once Kitty saw who she would be up against, she instantly surrendered. So Storm became Ms. X without even having to lift a finger.

Seeing Kitty walk over, Jean gave her shoulder a pat of reassurance.

"Now you know why no one else sign up," the redhead teased

On the men's side, it was much more competitive. 6 of the men had signed up, including Jack. Although he knew he was the strongest, he had to make sure that the others knew it too.

The first rounds consisted of Jack vs Iceman, Cyclops vs Angel, and Wolverine vs Gambit.

Cyclops and Angel were up first. The match was also not much of a surprise. Angel had lost his Archangel abilities so his only way of attack was by closing the gap with Cyclops. But thanks to his optic beams, Angel didn't have a chance at all.

After Cyclops and Angel, it was time for Wolverine and Gambit to have their match. This match seemed one-sided at first with Gambit constantly throwing explosive cards at Wolverine, sending the latter flying all over the fighting grounds.

"Haha, Logan. Is that all you got?" Remy gloated.

Wolverine didn't respond but kept trying to close the distance and cut off Gambit's hands, without any luck. But after 10 minutes of this, the tides changed.

Gambit reached into his trenchcoat to pull out another card but his face changed as he realized he had run out. Seeing the expression on his face change, Wolverine smirked.

"Now it's my turn, bub!" Wolverine let out a guttural roar and charged at Gambit. Within moments, Gambit's favorite trenchcoat and bo staff were turned into scrap while his face was black and blue from some adamantium knuckles hitting him a few times.

After dragging Gambit's body away, Jack and Iceman took the stage.

"I've been waiting a long time to show you that I'm the best ice hero around," Iceman said confidently

Jack looked at him as if he was looking at a fool. The one thing that Jack had absolute confidence in was his ice powers.

"Bring it on, snowcone."

Iceman indeed tried to bring it. He attempted to shift his body into his ice form but he was unable to. Iceman tried a few times before realizing that something was off. He tried to create a snowball in his hand and use his frost breath but neither of those worked either.

Iceman looked at Jack with fear on his face.

"I heard that you can disable X-Genes but I didn't think you would feel the need to use it in this competition."

"Haha," Jack laughed at Bobby thinking he shut down his X-Gene. "Don't be stupid. I need physical contact with another to shut down their mutations."

Iceman was very confused.

"Then how come I can't use my powers?" Iceman asked, starting to feel very nervous

"Oh, that? The answer is very simple. I am the embodiment of ice and winter. This means that all ice powers fall under my domain. Without my permission, no one else can even use ice or water in my presence."

Hearing what Jack said, Storm found it interesting and summoned a lightning storm. A large amount of rain began pouring down in moments but all the rain that got within a hundred feet of Jack froze in place, creating a dome of water above Jack's head.

The students and teachers were amazed. There was only one thought in their minds when they saw that Jack really did have complete control over water and ice.

'Omega-Level'

In the hearts of most mutants, Omega-Level mutants were those that could not be trifled with. Magneto, Exodus, Apocalypse (I know not officially). Those were the names that had become the association for Omega-Level mutants.

Iceman also thought this and when he realized that he could do nothing, he let out a sigh before he raised both of his hands in surrender.

"Guess that's my loss," Bobby chuckled

Jack nodded before forcefully activating Bobby's powers and turning him into his ice form but Jack also added some of his own power into it so Iceman became black instead of his usual blue version.

The students were amazed once again. Jack could not just stop other people with similar powers to his but he could even make theirs more powerful.

After basking in the admiring gazes of the students for a few moments, Jack stopped empowering Bobby's ice form and returned it to normal. He then turn to Logan and Scott asking if they wanted to continue with his eyes.

Neither wanted to forget but since they saw what Jack was capable of, there was no point in embarrassing themselves. Jack was just on an entirely different level compared to them.

"I'm out!" Logan called out first

"Me too!" Scott said right after

So in less than 20 minutes, the staff portion of Field Day had been completed. And next up, were the squads.

Of all the squads, the ones that everyone was betting on were the Inquisitors, the Hellions, and the Corsairs.
