A jealous best friend

"What's up man?" Perry asked the moment I walked to his car.

" Many things, but the sky remains the only thing permanently up," I tried to joke.

" You look like shit," he gave me a once over.

"I look more than that", I said resignedly.

" What happened?" he asked with a concerned look " what have you so shaken up?"

He came closer to me.

" Mom is getting married again", I sob into his shirt, " she wants to abandon us again".

"Shh, it's okay", he consoles me, "you're not going to be abandoned again". he held on to my crying form. His hand gently patting me on my back.

I allow myself sob, letting out the pent out frustration I felt since she told me of her intending marriage.

"It's going to be okay Nuel. You don't have to worry your handsome head about anything. Am here to guide you all the way." He consoled.

Perry have being my best friend, someone whom I run to when things seems to get out of hand. The one who knows what best to tell me in mu saddest moments.

" Thank you Perry. I really did need a friend to release my burden on. " I didn't know how much I long for a shoulder to cry on until now.

"You don't have to thank me Nuel. This is what friends do for each other. I've got your back despite anything that might happen."

"You're one in a million Perry. Do you know that?" I look up at him. My face showing how grateful I am to have such a friend like him.

"Let's go party it off!" Perry says as he fist pumps the air.

I smile at his attempt to cheer my sad self up "is Aiden going to be there?".

It will make my night if I get to see his lovely smiling face.

Aiden's face is like the light at the other end of my tunnel. Just seeing his face is enough to brighten my day.

Perry frowned when he heard my question, he looks like person who ate sour grape "why must everything be About him Nuel?" he angrily looks at me, " I thought tonight's supposed to be about me cheering you up? " he looks hurt.

I smile, " you will get the gist if things when you have a crush."

I feel like a day without seeing Aiden will make me go insane. I think my heart have gotten real entangled with Aiden and whatever magic he might have made use of on me.

"As if I don't know," he murmured. His voice sounds as broken as I felt.

"What do you mean by your words?" I look at him in question.

"Nothing," he smiled.

Looking at him, I decided not to ask more on what he means.

Perry isn't one who bares his soul out when he doesn't want to do so.

If he wants me to know his words, he will tell me in his own time.

Even if it takes more time, I will wait till he's ready to tell me what I want to hear.

*

We arrived at the crowded party. There were enough students in here, and that got me thinking on how they each got invited.

"Why is here crowded?" I look at Perry in question.

" That's how a highschool party always is." He says with an indifferent shrug before walking forward. His hand protectively holding onto mine.

I allowed him drag me to wherever he's going to since I can't afford to be lost in a sea of people. Each grinding and dancing to the loud almost ear deafening music coming from deep within the house.

This is one of the reasons why I hate parties; The sweaty bodies, the loud music, and don't get me started on the amount of Alcohol consumed in a place like this despite our none adult status.

Perry guided me inside the house, and to a less crowded place. The students here aren't like those outside, neither were they like those at the entrance of the house.

"Phew," I dramatically wiped sweat from my head as I sat on the chair. "Thank the Lord you got me out of there."

Scattered in what looks like a kitchen are students who are either missing their drinks, or talking with friends.

The scene here is far more better than the ones we came in to.

"Am the bestest best friend right?" he raised a brow. His mouth curved up in a smile.

"You're the best among," I smile at him, the smile momentarily freezing on my face the moment the object of my fantasy walked in.

My heart beating frantically.

How do I look?

I mentally tried to check the clothes am wearing.

Mentally trying to make sure my clothes in any way aren't rumpled.

"Nuel. " Perry shook me.

Is my shoes matching with the clothes am wearing? Is it of the same colour?

Is my hair completely slicked back?

Is the gel still holding the stubborn locks in place?

I discreetly touched my hair to check if it's truly still gelled, and luckily it was. Not a hair seems out of place.

"Nuel! " Perry shook me again. This time completely gaining my attention.

"Yes," I startled. "What's it?" I whispered.

I don't want to shout, not in front of my crush who might not be one for noisy boyfriends.

"You look so lost in your thoughts, that's why," Aiden shrugged. A frown on his face as he looked at me.

"Oh," I forced a smile. " I was just thinking of something."

I discreetly searched for Aiden, but he wasn't anywhere near the kitchen. Seems like he left the moment he came in.

He probably came looking for someone, that might be the reason he didn't stay for long.

"Yeah," Perry scoffed. "You were having thoughts of a certain boy who just came in." Perry slowly nodded. A permanent frown now on his face as he said so.

"That's not true!" I tried to deny his accusations, but the blush on my face gave me out.
