Eye Of The Storm

I could hear the worry and panic in the Valkyrie's voice as she quickly racked her brain on what to do next. Bryan had already bolted out of the front door to get the letters, so he wasn't there to see his boss freaking out. I gently placed my hand onto hers, shocking Z.

"Don't panic. Take deep breaths, and it'll be okay. If you aren't calm now, you'll lose the clues needed to help find the Duchess. Don't let your feelings take hold of you. You control your emotions, not the other way 'round," I whispered, trying to calm the Valkyrie.

"I know, I know... I'm stressing out because I don't know which one to prioritize, and I've got a pressing matter after the Albion one as well. And god knows what would happen in this Major Mission. If it goes wrong... I can't bear to lose another King," explained Mavislin.

"Leave the patchwork of the dams to me. What's the other Mission you were talking about?" asked Z, sensing the atmosphere.

"But, you'd said you were busy... I can't bother you. You've got a mountain of tasks of your own to handle," murmured Mavislin.

"It's human dams. I'm not building a castle from scratch. Besides, my team can handle things out in the waters for now. Ever since the floods, the problems have died down, but we are still are on high alert. And there are no signs of abnormal Elemental Energy," clarified Z.

"Eye of the storm," I replied, looking at Z.

The two Mages turned to look at me.

"Eye of the storm. It's a term we use to say calm before something bad happens. When everything looks alright and peaceful, the wave will come twice as hard as before. Don't leave your guards down when it comes to the oceans or Mother Nature."

"Mother Earth has got a nasty way to give the middle finger to those who mess her planet up," I explained, recalling my random memories from my previous life.

"It can be interpreted as a warning sign, like receding tides indicating a tsunami. Just because there's a rest time doesn't mean everything is fine. It's a way for the opposing party to let their guards down so that they can strike when the guards are not at the prime," replied Mavislin.

"We can strike at them at full power after the break, or we could go in now, which isn't a good idea, right?" I asked, looking at the two Mages.

"We have two options. Please wait for the entire thing out and possibly suffer repercussions, or we strike during the calm before the storm. I choose the latter option, but I'm pressed to do the first one instead. Unless I can get help for the other Mission," revealed Mavislin.

"There were some Mages tasked to the Birton Domain as Ysabeau is still on bed rest. But none of them were posted at the Prisoners' Den," added Z.

"No, Matthew was posted to be at the Den, but he backed out after he claimed something felt off with the area. Baldwin disbanded that Minor Mission since the rest of the Mages didn't want to go there," stated Mavislin.

The Valkyrie glanced around before widening her eyes.

"There is one Mage that should be there! Oh, but I don't think I would like to speak with her... That whore of Babylon..." cringed Mavislin, shaking her head.

"No, Metria got posted somewhere else halfway through that event because I needed extra help in the main Mission. By the way, what's the other Mission that you needed to do?" replied Z.

"The other Mission would be to evacuate all the people at the West Coast of Teuton. But, unfortunately, there's an oncoming storm heading there, and I was tasked to brave it," replied Mavislin, blinking rapidly.

"Before you ask if I could place that Mission up on the board, I can't because a First-rate Mage of now can only halt that storm. I think by the time it hits the coast, it would've gathered up more power. It's already at destructive levels, and I can't let a junior take this up."

"I'll try to see if I can control that storm with what I've got. But if I'm there, I won't be joining you guys to Briton. But I will send Tomoe in my stead," offered Raiyen.

I was impressed. This Valkyrie could remember so many Missions despite having to rack her brain to fix the current one. She truly knows that the bulletin board is like the back of her head.

"Let's tune in to the members that are on Missions right now. It's the only way to find abnormalities around that region to see the severity of the situation. Perhaps we'll even find a proper route to the Prisoners' Den," suggested Raiyen.
