Starting Side Quest: Duncan's Duel

As I landed, I enforced my armor and drew out my sword to get ready to rumble with the Dementor Pillar. The kid was also prepared, having his battle outfit on and wielding a considerable scythe made out of skeletal remains. Duncan's eyes were closed for some reason.

"Are you ready, Lady Lizzie?" asked Duncan, still closing his eyes.

"Hmph, I should ask you the same. Do you think you can best me?"

"I don't have to best you... I only need to impress you by making you fall to your knees!" yelled the child as his eyes flew open.

"I'd invite you to try!" I yelled back before realizing Duncan's overall appearance.

If I were scared of his eyes, I'd be freaking out with what they've become now. The kid's left pupil was now glowing green while his other eye remained the same. His hair was now grown out and silverish-grey while a black coat appeared.

I could hear the sound of chains, but I couldn't see any lying around or near Duncan. The child's Aura was purely terrifying for someone so weak and small. Vania had entered battle mode the moment we touched down and given me a list of spells to use against Duncan.

However, before I could do anything, Duncan sprang into action. Luckily, I was enough to block the attack as the kid went into frenzy mode to destroy my sword. Despite looking so weak, the scythe was super sturdy as it could hold its own against my blade.

I then stepped forward by stomping my foot, effectively breaking the clash. Duncan was launched back but continued the fight by flipping upside-down and using the scythe as a pole to stab the ground and swing himself back into the arena. I quickly dodged the next strike by leaping back.

We then exchanged clashes for a solid minute. This kid was powerful, even to my standards. He makes the duel with Rina seem like a fight between babies! I wasn't having trouble keeping up, but the boy impressed me with how he fights and the power behind his clashes.

And we haven't even used Magecraft yet! Another bonus was that the kid was swinging that giant scythe as if they had been best friends ever since he was born! He used it to strike, break his fall, and shift his position to my disadvantage.

But this duel wasn't landing us anywhere, and I was the first to break the tranquil battle. I allowed myself to get pushed back to Duncan's giant swing and forced my legs into the ground as an overflow of power rushed all over my body and into my blade.

Then, holding the sword upright with both hands, an explosion of orange and purple Elemental Energy engulfed the weapon.

"Oblivion and Inferno's Might!" I yelled, launching a slash of Elemental Energy towards Duncan.

The child was pretty confident with his defense as he threw his scythe to block the attack. But then, I felt the entire ground shake like it was in turbulence.

"I am the writer, and this battle is my script. The Act of Sinners intertwines within my hands. The Record Of Darkness hangs around me. Let the Play Of Death... Begin!" shouted Duncan as his Elemental Aura flared up.

My spell was quickly canceled, and the scythe glowed green. As the boy concentrated on gathering his Elemental Energy for his next attack, I could squeeze in one more attack to test the waters.

"Close gates beyond Atlantis' Domain! Hold the fort and load up the cannons of Atlantia! Ready... Set... Go! Oceansoul's Might!" I shouted, swinging my glowing blade of blue towards the child of Darkness.

Duncan seemed to brave the attack by allowing the torrent of water to engulf him, but I was sure it didn't do the trick since he wasn't entirely gone in my interface.

"The Son of Sun God, Ra. The God Of Afterlife and the Judgement of Death. This is the part of the play where betrayal runs through the family line, and out of rage and jealousy, the man's life has ended from his brother's attack... I write with anger and hate..." chanted Duncan.

Crap, Vania! Activate Avarice now! I instantly changed my sword's grip to defend myself from the oncoming attack as I yelled.

"Understood. Activating Avarice..."

Ready or not, here it comes!

"Fifth Frame: Judgment Of Osiris!" yelled Duncan, unleashing a giant, greenish wave of Elemental Energy into my face.

As the spell's impact came into contact with my blade, it was like being hit by a train. But as soon as Varice was activated, the spell was being sucked into my sword, and my interface started glitching out, unable to read Duncan's Element and Power. And I panicked since my vision was blocked.
