The Beginning

We panicked and after shaking her arm multiple times we finally managed to wake her up.

She woke up gasping for air as if she stopped breathing before.

"My head" She closed her eyes and shook her head "I just feel like I came out of a bright sunlight, I can not see clearly!" She forced herself off the ground and managed to sit "Is he…" She was left in shock when her eyes fell on the body of the High Mage, he was dead his skin turned bluish-white.

"He is dead!" Ryan huffed "It is all my fault he usually told people about their future or past, I had no idea that this would happen…" He looked down with disappointment.

"I am sorry Crystal, You guys should go now I do not want you all to get caught up in this, and I have already caused much trouble for you" He opened the door.

"Yeah, you did that for sure" Shawn stared at him with anger while helping Cris get up from the ground.

We quickly sneaked out and stood by the main hall arch quickly pretending to be normal and chatting together not letting anyone realize that we were not there before.

Within the next few minutes, Mrs. Leonardo stepped into the middle of the hall room where there was a small stage she rang her glass with a spoon.

We all approached her to listen to her announcement when she cleared her throat.

"We are here celebrating because finally, the time we were waiting for has arrived. I want you to meet our most awaited students the most important characters of our journey that's yet to begin." She smiled at us as she extended her hand toward us.

We got to the stage and stood beside her "Let us welcome, Ms. Crystal Miller Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Miller, Mr. Dominique Rodriguez son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rodriguez, Mr….?" She squinted while waiting for Shawn to tell her his name.

"Shawn... it's just Shawn!" He quickly spoke out with confusion, he felt embarrassed.

This was weird because the receptionist collected our data but I do not remember her reading Shawn's and his family's names, and I am sure this is where she found our names.

"And the most awaited girl, Ms. Zinnia Paragon, Daughter of Mr. Raymond Paragon and his beloved wife Lady Liana!" Everyone started whispering while staring at me.

"Mrs. Leonardo… I think you have mistaken" I whispered in her ear. "My Mother's name is Mary, not Liana and it is James, not Raymond," I clarified but what I saw was confusion on her face.

"We will talk about this later" She smiled.

"High Mage is dead, High Mage is dead!" A student came into the room yelling.

"What?" Mrs. Leonardo turned around, she froze where she was standing.

The gabbling within the crowd arose and she rushed toward the door which leads to the tower.

There were guards with her, before she could get inside Robin rushed to her and whispered something in her ear that made her look at me, then she stared at Ryan with anger.

"What's her problem?" Cris wanted to punch her but she only took a step when I grabbed her arm.

"Avoid her!" I whispered, "Besides we do not even know what she actually said to her" I shrugged.

I was angry myself but what Cris went through made me want to keep her out of any mess.

Later when Cris was in her room I knocked on the door, I wanted to check up on her.

"It is me!" I called out to her.

The door opened by itself in front of me, I was surprised she was lying on the bed.

"How did that open by itself?" I stepped in.

"Let me show you!" Cris sat up and looked at the door "Close" She said and the door closed.

"Woah!" I stared at the door with my eyes wide open.

"You never wondered why the doors had no locks on them?" She looked at me with surprise.

I nodded innocently.

"Try to open it!" She asked, and when I tried it never opened until she asked me to stop.

"Open up!" As she said the door opened back.

"Only the owner of the room can open and close the door!" It was amazing but her face was flat as if it did not make any difference to her.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I sat beside her.

"I do not know what to say?" She looked at the ground "Yesterday I was feeling guilty that I killed someone, and now I have come to know that I have the ability to predict deaths.

The saddest fact about it is the man who told me about this... died! holding my hands, right after telling me I do not know whether I should feel happy that I am not a murderer, or be sad that the man who told me about this is dead" She closed her eyes placing her forehead on her palms.

"I can only imagine what you have been going through but you are not alone… you have me, remember?" I cuddled her.

Afterward, I left her to rest she had been through so much she needed it, I got back to my room, and I thought if I could sleep I would feel better.

But this was the point! My eyes would not blink because of the sight of that old man's dead body, falling asleep was another thing.

When I lost the will to try I decided to go to the Headmistress without even caring about the time, and I think she was expecting me because she opened the door on my second knock.

I immediately felt bad about disturbing her when my eyes stopped at the clock with its small hand pointing toward three and the big one at four.

"I am sorry I shouldn't have…" I was still speaking when she held my wrist and pulled me inside.

"It is okay!" She hugged me tightly and stayed like that for a couple of minutes.

I could not understand why she was acting like that, as if she knew me, and I felt a strong emotional connection between us, I nervously placed my hands on her back when she pulled me back and smiled at me.

Her smile described that she was really happy but her eyes flooded with tears, and a moment later her smile vanished and the only thing that was left was her tears.

That made me realize she might have been closer to High Mage, "I am sorry" I pursed my mouth, and she offered me to sit on her couch.

"It is not your fault!" She lowered her eyes,

"No! You do not understand… I went upstairs with my own will and my friends…" I stammered "They followed me because they never leave me alone so I do not get in trouble" I kept lying so she does not punish them.

"Zinnia! It is okay!" She sighed, I was not expecting such a light reaction from her.

"You are not mad?" I stared at her with my eyes open wide.

"Why would I be?" She nodded "I know you went up there because you had questions." I like the way she talks because she is gentle and she is never rude like my previous school principal.

"I know you might be scared but he was the last person you should be afraid of, he never meant anyone any harm" She began walking. "In fact, he was the one who asked us to keep him locked up, he was scared to be corrupted!"

"Corrupted? What do you mean by corrupted?" I asked.

"He was a mage and a mage can be very dangerous if fallen into wrong hands." She nodded and sat beside me "A few years back he started having visions of them using a mage and conquering the world with him or her" She explained.

"I am sorry you said him or her, are there others? And also who are they?" As she was answering my questions, her answers were giving birth to new questions.

"At first we thought maybe he is the only mage left, but now we think there are others, or at least there is one, who's definitely not on our side" She seemed tensed this time.

"How are you certain?" I wanted to know the reason why she seemed this worried.

"A seer is a type of mage, the only difference between a mage and a seer is that a seer can see things and stop seeing them by his or her own will, but a mage can not control when or how to have vision" She explained it.

Now I get why she was worried, having a seer by the enemy's side explains how vulnerable you are, you can not plan you just have to do things that are unpredictable.

"I was frightened when he held her hands and when he started predicting especially when he said 'I can give you support as much as I can I was so frightened" I was still saying when she held both of my shoulders and stared me in my eyes with her eyes as wide as they could be.

"What are you saying? Who are you talking about? He held whom?" By the look on her face, I was sure she was going to tell me something that I was not ready to hear, while shaking inside I spoke out Cris's name.

"Now I understand his death was not just an accident, but… how can he give up his powers to just an ordinary girl?" She turned her face away and her pace became faster she was walking so fast from one wall to another.

"I do not know about the ordinary but he said something about Cris being something like a harbinger of…" I really could not recall this is how frightened I was now.

"Harbinger of death!" She stopped walking, "This is why she broke Fredricks's door!"

"How do you know that?" I approached her.

"Robin told me!" She approached the door "I need to see Cris now!" She had just opened the door when I told her that Cris was sleeping "We will see her in the morning then, you should rest now!" She smiled.

"Can I ask why Robin is always everywhere when no one is?" I giggled.

"She is a little nosy isn't she" She smiled.

"What about Cris? Is she in danger? Why you were so worried?" I asked.

She sat beside me on the couch "The path her destiny has chosen for her is not easy, when I was young our High Mage started having those visions, and the negative thoughts kept haunting him.

He kept fighting them until his eyes turned completely toward his brain, so what he saw was never in front, but underneath or behind, he later told us to keep him locked in a cell, and we built that cell using silver to keep the wolves away.

I was there the night his eyes turned upward... he was in so much pain that I… that I can not describe through words." She closed her eyes, her voice was quavering.

"I believe you have seen it all with your own eyes" I rubbed her shoulder gently.

"But what does any of it have to do anything with me or… or my dad?" I pursed my mouth.

"I also wanted to clear the conclusion, the names you used to call my parents…" I wanted to say more but I saw a strange smile on her face.

"James is my brother, I know what you wanted to say, I should have used the names of your parents but not your biological mother and father?" She rested her head on the headrest of the couch.

"What?" My biological parents? What was she talking about? "What are you saying? I am talking about James and Mary! My only parents, you must have mistaken!" I tried to clear everything but it only got more tangled.

"I know James more than you do Zinnia! James is my brother, just like your father! But I want you to keep that a secret… just for now." She looked me in the eyes.

"You said it again! My dad is James and… Wait! Are you my aunt? If you are how come you are so confused about who my parents are?" I was still confused, her every word seemed to fly over my head, not making any sense.

"Oh!" Her face turned long and her eyes seemed to carry a burden and shame "You think… James and Mary are your biological parents!" She realized she messed up.

"Sorry! Forget I said anything" She stood up but I held her hand, realizing that she could be my only source of answers, to the questions that had been boiling like lava inside me.
