Adeline
Adeline cringed from the pain in her throat. Who had crammed her mouth with cotton? Where am I? Her eyes wouldn't open fully and, except for a small nightlight that lit a golden leafed wall, darkness filled the space. Somehow she ended up in a camper that now bounced along the road.
She sat up and whirled so fast her head spun, but she spotted a figure. An old lady leaned upright against the far wall, sleeping by her soft snores. Her silver mane glowed under the dim light, and Adeline swore she recognized her from somewhere.
"Who's there?" A spike of pain plowed through her head and into her spine. After several moments, she realized she was on a small bed crammed between the back wall of the camper and the small table where the old woman rested.
After a long yawn, the woman spoke. "Good, you're awake," she said in the voice of a stranger.
