Chapter 88: Brunch

Daniel

"Mom," Daniel chided. "I'm sure Cassie is busy with other things."

"Like what?" His mom's bun on top of her head shook as she glanced between them. "It's early."

"Late for me, I just got home a little while ago." He shifted his weight, his legs buckling, and he stumbled a step, then righted himself. Exhaustion rolled through him, along with something else he couldn't explain. The feeling that, if he laid down for an hour, he'd feel as if he'd slept ten.

"Nonsense." His mom looped her arm through Cassie's. "A quick bite and you both can tell me how you met. How long have you been dating?" She strolled with Cassie down the sidewalk to her BMW, then turned back to him. "You know, Daniel never tells me about his dates anymore. Are you the one he bringing to Linney's anniversary party?"

Cassie glanced over at him and cocked an eyebrow.
