I was sitting on the couch with Crew on the main level's living area. Crew was typing away on his computer and drinking coffee. I was channel surfing on the t.v. When the front door opened and slammed shut. Elijah started to stomp his way up stairs. Mumbling to himself as he did so.
"How did it go?," I asked, not taking my eyes off the t.v.
"SHE THROUGH THE PAIN MEDS IN THE LAKE!," he yelled back as a door slammed.
Crew started to laugh to himself. I shot him a glare.
"What?," he said through a laugh. I rolled my eyes, and went back to channel surfing. "Do you really think he tried to talk to her?," he asked once his laughing stopped.
"Not at all," I responded. Crew snickered. I rolled my eyes not looking at him.
An hour passed before the door opened again, and Arianna came in. she came into the living area. Sitting down next to me. I glared at her.
"What?," she asked a little defensively. I looked her dead in her amber brown eyes.
"You threw the pill into the water," I said with a stern tone in my voice. She looked right back at me. Her eyebrows lowered in a furrow.
"No way in hell, I am going to take pain killers again," she said with a little attitude.
"AGAIN?!," Crew piped in.
"NOTHING!," Arianna and I both yelled simultaneously , looking at Crew. His eyes shot back down to his computer. He was pretending not to listen.
"You have to take them Arianna! They will make you feel better while you heal!," I yelled at her as she stood up and started to limp away on her crutches. She was fuming. She turned around and snapped at me,
"I will not ever take those addictive, awful white tiny pills again!," she yelled at me. She hobbled her way up the stairs and into her room.
"ARIANNA YOU CAN'T FIGHT IT! YOU HAVE TO TAKE THEM! IT WILL MAKE THE HEALING….," i screamed at her as a door slammed shut. "You have to be freaking kidding me," I mumbled under my breath.
Crew glanced up at me. We made eye contact and his eyes shot back down to his computer. Rolling my eyes i asked,
"what,".
"You can not make her take something she is against," he said, his eyes connecting to mine again. I glared at him. "Hey, don't kill the messenger," he said with a chuckle and raising his hands high.
I rolled my eyes and went back to channel surfing, and found a movie. Although I could not get Crew's words out of my head. I thought back to the car accident. When Arianna had to take pain killers for her legs. The tiny pills made her feel great, but when the prescription ran out she was miserable. I remember saying how "invencible the pills made her feel," and how when the prescription ended. She said she "felt so weak,". I could not make her go through that all again.
By the time I was done thinking Crew was gone and the movie was over. Walking into the kitchen I looked at the little clock on the counter. It read 2:45. I walked up the stairs. Approaching Arianna's door, I listened for anyone talking. I knocked on the door and opened it. Elijah was sitting on the king bed typing on his computer and looking at papers laid out next on the bed next to him. Arianna was sitting on her bed. My Legs stretched out and crossed. Her arms crossed in anger as she stared out the window next to her. Her eyebrows were still furrowed. She was clearly still not happy.
I walked up to her. Placing a hand on her ankle I sat down next to her. She did not look at me. Bailey poked her head out from under the bed. I could hear the dog's tail thumping from under the bed. She started panting as I smiled at her. Looking back at Arianna, I sighed.
"You are right, I can not force you to take the painkillers," she still did not look at me. "I could not lie to myself if I forced you to go through the withdrawal all over again. I am so sorry I yelled at you," I said looking at her. She still did not look at me, but she smirked. I laughed. This caused her to chuckle. She looked at me with her eyes full of happiness. Her furrowed eyebrows were long gone.
Standing up I gave her a tight hug.
"Thank you," she whispered in my ear. Pulling away I grabbed her hand and attempted to pull to the door. "What are you doing? I need to grab the crutches," she said, panicked, and looked at Elijah. He had no reaction.
"No, you do not. You did not break your leg. You can walk. It might be more like a limp for now, but you can do it,". She smiled ear to ear and stood up from the bed. Arianna was able to stay standing for a little while. Before her knees started to buckle. I grabbed her from under her arms. Holding her up. An awkward giggle came out of Arianna. Elijah was still not paying attention.
Slowly I released my grip on Arianna. Taking a step back from her, I looked her up and down. Her toes on her injured leg barely touched the ground. Her good leg firmly planted to the ground. It held her up straight and rigid. Taking a few steps toward the door, I turned around and gestured for her to follow. Putting more pressure on her bad leg, she limped forward. She continued this pattern a little further, until she reached me.
"See you can do this," I said to her in a reassuring voice, and gave her a proud smile.
She gave a proud smile back. We continued to make our way down stairs. Stopping every few feet so she could take a little break. The stairs were tricky for her. Arianna ended up sitting down on the stairs. She slowly slid down the stairs on her butt, like a toddler would. It was a slow process but she eventually made it.
With a huge smile Arianna grabbed the railing for support and pulled herself up right. Looking back at me one more time she hobbled her way into the guest bedroom in front of the stairway. She was able to move faster this time, because she had gotten the pattern of limping figured out upstairs. Although I still followed close behind. Ready to catch her if she were to fall.
When we entered the guest bedroom two women were standing behind two metal folding chairs. One of the women was blonde and the other was brunette. Both women had a bunch of makeup brushes attached to their hips. Along with wearing black jeans and a black t-shirt, that was tucked in at the waist. Big bright, white lights on metal stands pointing at the chairs. Illuminating the room.
The Blonde woman approached us. With a hand gesturing to the chairs, she smiled.
"We are the Taylor sisters. We have been entrusted to help you ladies get ready for tonight," the blonde sister said. She was very cheerful. Her face dawned a bright and beautiful smile. With pearly white teeth in between. Bowing my head to her, I took a seat. Arianna sat down next to me.
The lights were blinding as they showed in my eyes. The two sisters started working immediately on our makeup. Brushes and sponges pressed, and moved across my face. Powders and liquids were applied with every swipe. Time passed very slowly as the two women worked.
Once they finished with the makeup they handed us tiny hand held mirrors. My skin looked like it was glowing as I stared back at my reflection. My face looked very different but in a good way. The contour made my cheek bones and collar bones more prominent. My cheeks had a very light dusting of blush. That led all the way up to my temples. My eyelids were shaded with a light pink color. Not the color I would have chosen, but it worked. Lining the eyes were a very small thin line of black eye liner. That shaped into a small wing at the outer corners of the eyes. The eye shadow matched my lips. Which were also a light pink as well. My makeup gave off this very blushing school girl vibe.
Looking over at Arianna, she had a very similar makeup style. Although she had a little more concealer around her still puffy eye, the black bruising was all covered up now. This blushing school girl vibe did not fit her well. It was too bright and cheerful for her, and you could visually see that she was not pleased with it. Her face was taught with disgust as she stared at her reflection.
"Is everything alright my lady," the brunette stylist asked, concern filled her voice. Arianna looked at the lady. A fake smile of enjoyment crossed her face.
"No, everything is fine. The makeup looks amazing," Arianna responded in a fake happy tone. I rolled my eyes, and looked at myself in the mirror again. The blonde sister pretended that she did not see my reaction and moved behind me.
