Party (7)

Abigail hearing Sara's words was ready to scream at this b*tch. She wanted to make her public enemy one with all the women present who thought they had a chance with Daniel. She heard the name calling and the few threats directed at her, and while they were hidden from everyone started to clench her fists.

Daniel, while he still had his back turned to everyone quietly whispered, "Your choice. But do not let her get you down, you know your grandfather will not stand for it."

Abigail nodded slightly and sat there lost in thought. Living with her biological family, hiding her true self, a strong independent person, intelligent and bright, who had, at such a young age developed a thriving business that company after company wanted to partner. With the assistance of her Grandmother and Samantha, she was however able to enjoy being a young person without having to worry about people finding out about the real her.

Shielding her identity for years had become ingrained in her. With the family that raised her, it was about survival and keeping the efforts of her hard work as if the parents who raised her knew about MayTag, like forcing her to be the household servant so they and their incompetent sons lived like they were rich and had servants to do everything, would force her to handover the company. Grandmother, when she did what she did to protect her hard work said, she loved her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons, but they were incompetent and would ruin anything they touched.

Grandmother was right on that, because about three years ago, during summer she opened a small roadside food stall during the school holidays to earn a little money selling a couple of simple dishes. They waited until the end of school holidays, the day she went to pay the school fees, and cornered her, taking every cent of what she had earned they could find. The only saving grace was the night before her grandmother came and had her handover the school fees money, saying she would pay it on her behalf.

Other than her grandfather, who like her grandmother seemed to genuinely care about her, she not only was hated because her existence showed them every single time the lie, they had been living, but treated her not only as an unpaid servant, took every chance to humiliate her. She so wanted to get up and ruin the night for Sara, but that would backfire on her.

Closing her eyes for just a couple of seconds Abigail knew within herself, that waiting to deal with Sara would be more spectacular when she took public control of MayTag. As she opened her eyes and saw Daniel sitting in front of her, the other face slap she could easily deliver was to confirm to them that Daniel was her husband. That would shut everyone up, but…

Internally shaking her head, revealing that fact was something she did not want known currently as it would force her hand in a particular direction that she was not ready to go.

Abigail lifted her head, and stared at Sara, before standing up, and saying in a loud voice, while instilling in her tone that she was embarrassed by the attention "Thank you, but I think those on the stage still have plenty to say." She took two paces away from Daniel which started to withdraw the attention from her, and having everyone turn back to the stage, where her so-called father was standing at the microphone ready to speak.

Before she could move too far away, Daniel had quickly moved to be standing beside her, and whispered so he could not be heard over Adam's speech "You are my wife, and you should not be intimidated by others to move from being near me…"

Abigail brushed off his hand and spat out, in a whispering voice "I told you, I do not know if I want to be your wife, and the more you keep interfering with me, the more it makes me want to go straight back and get a divorce, not caring about the consequences." With that Abigail stormed off, quickly hiding herself in the crowd. As he started to move his gaze towards the stage to pay attention to Adam, he noticed something going on at the entrance to the room. Who was coming?"

After a few minutes, Adam Meng finished his speech abruptly before saying "Could everyone please move to your designated table, which was noted on the piece of paper you were handed when you arrived, but please remain outstanding while the final guest at this party, President Fu-Gan is escorted in and takes his seat. Our first course will be brought out soon after that." This drew gasps from everyone present who hurried to their designated tables, Abigail reaching hers, stuck in the corner with Rebecca and two couples she had never met standing there.
