Chapter 3

The next day, Dinah woke up the same way as yesterday only that today is a Saturday. "Happy birthday to me." She said as she got down from the bed. Today is her sixteenth birthday but she didn't want to celebrate it.

Ever since her parents died, she refused to celebrate her birthday because that was the same day they died. It was always a moment of grief for her. "Mom,dad I miss you guys." She said sadly as she wiped the tears in the corner of her eyes.

She went downstairs in a pair of blue jeans with a black shirt that had cute designs adorning it. Soon, she prepared breakfast and called everyone to eat. Mrs Smith was the first to go down,Meg following after her. Mrs Smith hugged her and kissed her cheeks saying "Happy birthday dear." And Meg pulled Dinah in a bear hug as she said happily "Happy birthday D." Dinah replied to both of them with a tight smile on her face. "Thanks."

Mrs Smith knew that Dinah wasn't happy. She was about to talk when Jimmy and Jack, the twins came down and hugged Dinah together saying "Happy birthday big sis"and then ran towards the table without waiting for a reply from Dinah. Everyone one laughed at their behavior while Mr Smith came down and also wished Dinah a happy birthday.

After breakfast, everyone presented their gifts to Dinah, because they knew Dinah didn't want to celebrate her birthday. The day went quite quickly and after dinner, Meg convinced Dinah to let her sleep in with her. Thankfully, Dinah agreed and soon they were on the bed talking and laughing at their their childhood. "D," Meg said as she turned to look at the ceiling. "Hmmm?" Dinah said turning to look at her.

"Remember the day we were kids, you were being bullied by that asshole Ronald and his friends in kindergarten, and coincidentally I saw you and walked in and stood up for you?" Meg said as she turned to look at Dinah. "Yeah, and in the end we all got beaten up before our parents came to pick us up." Dinah said "That was the beginning of our friendship." Dinah continued this time with a genuine smile as she turned to look at the ceiling again. After a short moment of silence, Dinah said still looking at the ceiling "Meg, do you know what I always wish for?"

"What?" Meg said looking at her. "For you to be my best friend forever," Dinah said sitting up facing Meg.

"Awww,, and I will gladly honor that wish." Meg said hugging Dinah as tears welled in her eyes.

After that, they quietly laid back down and slowly drifted to sleep.

A little into the night, a portal was seen opening right above them.
