A Favour

"H-How does the situation looks? W-Will she live?" the elder asked, her voice breaking here and there. The shaking in the voice was also very prevalent.

"Let me have a look first. I can't tell you anything without a thorough physical observation" the lady flushed at the answer.

It was clear to see that she was impatient and anxious at the same time.

Iris kneeled in front of the ill body. One look was all it took to know where the problem originated in that body.

The big blue patch on the arm was a clear offender and looked like some kind of poison that seemed to be spreading quickly. Depending on the type of poison, it might really be untreatable…

…for an ordinary doctor at least.

As a healing god, it should likely be no problem for Iris.

'It's time to show the fruits of my labor' the surroundings faded as Iris zoned out, her mind focused on Iris's memories.

The week had hardly been enough time to make these techniques left behind by Iris as her own but she had found another way to make things work.

And that was by channelling Iris's experience through her own body and allowing it to take her over for the time being.

She was still herself but her moments, her way of working, it was all Iris in operation. It was not unlike the initial possession the system had forced her to undergo.

As her energy travelled through that body, she could tell that the poison was not that severe but it was lethal if not treated in time.

The old couple had been lucky that they had found her in time.

"There is still time left so I can treat her. Get me a bowl full of cold water and a few clothes and be on standby to wipe the sweat off. You need to keep her cool while I work on her" the elder lady jolted at Iris's words.

Her wide eyes looked back at Iris gratefully but also doubtfully.

"But don't you have magic? If you can save her then why do you need my assistance?" the lady asked but did run around to find a bowl.

It was infuriating how common people just pointed at 'magic' as a solution to everything.

"Magic will cure her but it will not make her comfortable. Her body will heat up a lot while I cure her. You want her to recover early? You work for it" those words were not Michael's but Iris's.

Somehow, her memories had integrated with the present body and made some of her original personality shine through at the moment.

"G-Got it" the elder female shivered at the cold tone Iris had just used, not expecting something like this from the helpful female.

Iris had no time to waste.

While the other was busy gathering water and other necessities, Iris decided it was time to focus on the root of the real problem.

'System, will I get exp or something if I help her out? Also, can you turn on the medical vision? I can't multitask here'

Her body had started to absorb the surrounding magic and force it through the unresponsive body in front of her. It was a slow process and painful for the other party as well.

The other was lucky that they were unresponsive or they would feel the burn inside their body. Magic was not for everyone after all.

'System will open the medical vision in 3…2…1…go' the world changes in definition. The magic of the world swirled into her vision as everything turned to negatives of their original colour.

It was off-putting but Iris had no time to let it come between herself and her task.

"I'm b-back. What should I d-do?" the other female asked, her voice very near to Iris and she had to do her best not to flinch at the closeness.

This was no time to lose focus after all.

"Wipe her sweat off when she looks too hot. I am trying to burn the poison away" Iris gave a short explanation, not willing to bother with the other for now.

The magic was beginning to settle and now was the prime time to act. She had to force the magic through the veins and make it retreat.

Taking our a small dagger, Iris made a shallow cut on the poisoned arm. It was just a surface wound, not really enough to even make the other bleed for a long time but it forced a gasp out of her partner.

"Y-You? Why would y-you do that?" the other female's was colored in pure betrayal but Iris had no time to entertain herself.

Not when the poison was so close to the surface.

As soon as the liquid oozed out of the veins turned red in her medical vision, she knew it was time to push the other to her limits.

"Cool her down. The poison is starting to come out" Iris had no time to see if the other followed her instructions or not. It would depend on the patent's will to live from here on out.

The bleeding stopped after some time but Iris took her time to comb through the body a few more times. It would not do if the poison somehow remained in the body.

Even small doses could mutate to be lethal.

But it looked as if there was no complication there and it caused Iris to breathe out a sigh of relief.

Her first patient and she had succeeded.

'Exp +1000, LVL 4 unlocked.

Current level,

Medical LVL: Undefined.

Character LVL: 4'

It was weird how Iris had two levels to her name and even more so when one was undefined but the system had refused to elaborate on this when asked.

Iris could only take it in stride for now.

"S-So, is she c-cured?" someone touched her arm and it took everything Iris had not to do something drastic to the other. The sudden touch had startled her.

But luckily enough, Iris had frozen and she just came off as aloof.

"Please don't touch me so casually. The poison should be gone now but the will and recovery are the patient's alone. Only they can decide if they want to recover or not" Iris spoke but the other seemed to not have heard anything after the first few words.

There was a huge smile on the other female's face.

"Thank you. How can I repay you? Ah yes, p-payment. Please give me a f-few days to arrange something" a few days was a lot to ask for and Iris had no desire to remain here for so long.

"No need to repay me. Consider it as a favour I will cash in on in the future" Iris assured the other as she made her way out of the door.

"O-Ok" the other looked doubtful but seemed to be coming to terms with her good luck.

Iris turned back to leave but before she could open the gate, it opened all on its own. Her red eyes met beautiful blue ones and all Iris could do was curse her own bad luck.

"I heard that there was someone scamming the others by pretending to be a healer. Under the rule, I am here to arrest the offender" it was Grand Officer Rachael who stood on the other side, a commission healer and the inn owner behind her.

"Her. She's the one" the owner cried pointing at her and Iris knew her luck was up.
