What I'll do

After we ate breakfast, we decided to walk to the travelers guild. On our way I notice Aktor acting strangely. He gets out of the way for the passersby and no other way around. He also seems a bit quieter than usual.

We get inside the travelers guild and see a bunch of people carrying weapons and staffs. Some were carrying large carrying bags and backpacks. We get to the receptionist and Aktor start asking questions.

- Are there any missing person notices for a guy like this?

He points his thumb at me.

- Wait and let me check.

We waited a few minutes.

- I don't see any missing person notice regarding a 20 year old human male. Sorry.

- It's alright. I didn't expect much. How about work relating to wolves in the area.

- There seems to be a request that soldiers brought up and it seems they really have trouble managing both them and the magical beasts.

- So the solution would be helping them clear out those magical beasts.

- Yes, but that is not what they requested help with.

- I see. Then we will go hunt us some wolves for rent.

He started walking away from the receptionist.

- We are?

I asked confused

- Yep. You got the eyes of a fighter so it'll be a good experiment. Don't worry, I will make sure you won't die.

I started doubting our short friendship but I realize I don't know how else I'm going to make a living for the time being. So reluctantly I follow him around while he gets me a sword.

During our walk, after we get past the south-gate, Aktor starts telling me where there should be buch of wild wolf hunting and it was south-west of the gate. On our way we should see the edge of the forest and we would be going to the forest. Not far in, but a little clouse on the edge.

After some walking we saw a deer-like animal, with a shining yellow line on its sides, was running past us and Aktor casually threw his spear at it and it landed straight to the neck, killing it.

- Why did you kill this animal when we were going to hunt some wolves?

- This animal is called an aln and it just so happens to be one of the favorite animals local wolf eat. That is, if they don't attack farm animals. And we are going to use it as bait.

During his explanation he pulled out his spear out of the aln's neck and swung it to get the blood out of it. Then he started pulling the aln's horn and dragging it along the ground.

- Don't you have any other way of bringing it to the forest, rather than dragging it.

- If you want to carry it then that's fine by me. I rather not smell like an aln at the end of this.

- No, we can do it your way. I don't think I even could carry it by myself.

- Well you should be able to or you are gonna die today.

- Didn't you say that you are gonna make sure I don't die today?

- I can. But I will let you get some scratches and then some, if you don't try hard enough.

- I try my best not to die then.

- That's a good boy.

After that there wasn't any more conversation on the way and at the end he just threw the aln to the edge of the forest.

And then we waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And finally I thought I heard something but I was just a squirrel.

- Are you sure this is gonna work? We have been sitting here for what feels like hours.

- Just be patient, something is going to smell this and come take it.

- You sure?

- It worked last time I tried.

- Did you have to wait this long back then?

- About so. Yes.

- I see.

And we waited again.

And waited.

And then suddenly we saw a bush move. Could this be it? Finally?

And would you know it, we saw a wolf. Two wolves. Then three. And suddenly there were at least seven of them growling at us.

- Well. Told you it was going to work.

- But now there is a pack of them.

- Not a problem for me, but sure could be for you if you don't take your sword out anytime soon.

I pulled my sword out in a small panic and saw him still sitting on the ground.

- What are you doing!?

- Watching how you will do. I'll be just fine.

- You sure don't look like you are gona.

A wolf rushes towards his heck while his eyes are closed.

- Look out!

He suddenly goes to the lying position and quickly swung his spear to his side and slicing the wolf's neck. The wolf was soon whimpering and shortly after it died.

- That's one for me.

Then three wolves attacked me at the same time. Somehow I managed to kill two of them, but the thirth got on top of me and was about to bite my neck. Then suddenly the wolf was hit off of me by the blunt side of the spear.

The wolf shortly whimpered and quickly tried to attack us, but I took the opportunity and swung my sword at it and it soon died.

The three more wolves were watching us sharply, when another wolf, almost twice as big, came out of the woods growling.

- I take the big one, you take the three small ones.

Then he quickly rushed towards the big wolf and slit its throat.

Before the three other wolves could react, I rushed as quickly as I could and managed to get all three of them in a quick succession. I was a bit impressed by myself by this feat.

- So two for me and six for you.

- But you got the big one, so that should count as something.

- I guess it is technically a "great wolf" but one kill is a one kill. Now let's cut their tails as proof of our kills and call it a day.

We do just that. And after we are done I ask Aktor.

- What are we gona do with the aln?

- What do you mean?

- We could take its meat and eat it later. Don't you think so?

- Oh... Yeah... Eating... We should do just that.

After a while when Aktor skins the aln and chops its meat, he puts them in his bag and I mention the fact that we could sell the aln's skin at the market. He quickly rolls it and hands it to me.

- Are you happy now? Anything else?

- I think we are good.

And so we start walking towards the town, when the sun starts to settle and we start to hurry. During which Aktor starts complaining about smelling like an aln and I decide to ask him.

- What do you actually do for a living?

- This and that.

- How do you manage when you didn't even think of selling the aln skin uptill now?

- I travel from place to place and I always get money for one reason or another. Then I just spent it on necessities and I somehow managed to live.

- I'm actually impressed by that.

- I have my ways. And my style.

- I see. Well your fighting ability is something else, so that could be it.

- Yeah.

Then we traveled silently the rest of the way. Got through the gate. Brought the tails to the travelers guild and got some money from them. Aktor actually got a bit more from the tail of the great wolf than the normal ones and they bought the aln skin we had on us right there for a small sum. Don't know if we could have gotten more from it from the market, but I had a feeling Aktor wouldn't know the answer to it so I took my chances at the guild.

Then we went back to the tavern and paid our next night's fee. I decided to ask if the tavern lady could cook the aln meat for us and she happily got her husband to cook it for us. After we stuffed ourselves, I thought it would be time to go to sleep and I went to my bed and quickly fell asleep.
