Johnny had been spending all his time with Peter in the hospital, going so far as to bring in a makeshift desk and cot he could sleep on. He had pulled some strings to get Peter a VIP room so there was plenty of space. And, of course, visiting hours did not apply to them.
"Are you sure you don't want to go sleep on your big, comfortable, bed?," Peter asked, yet again. It was almost 10pm and he could tell Johnny had had a rough day at the office. "I'll be fine for one night, I promise."
Johnny was sitting next to Peter on the hospital bed, playing with Peter's hand as they talked. He gave the hand a squeeze and replied, "I'll be fine too. Stop asking."
"Fine, I'll stop. But can you at least promise me that you'll go to sleep right now with me and not jump on your laptop to do more work?," Peter half-asked, half-commanded. "I know you've been staying up late and waking up early. It's going to take a toll on your body," he continued, then winked as he said, "And I want your body in top shape so you can take me out once I get out of here."
Johnny smiled and gave the type of soft laugh Peter had realized would have been a heartier laugh for others. "Alright. You win," Johnny conceded. "This time."
"I'll take what I can get," Peter laughed.
"Then how about you take this?," Johnny teased as he leaned in and kissed Peter.
He intended it to be a quick peck, but Peter used his one good hand to hold Johnny's head in place so they could continue kissing. Once tongues got involved, Johnny pulled away and said, "I don't think this is a good idea."
Peter sighed, "I know you're right, but I can't help it."
The pout on Peter's face almost made Johnny give in, but he knew it was definitely not a good idea. Instead, he shifted positions so that he was lying on the bed, with Peter's head resting at the crook of his arm. "How about we do this instead?," he asked.
Peter snuggled into Johnny's chest and then teased, "You can say the word cuddle you know."
"Cuddle," Johnny said, deepening his voice even more than it already was, causing Peter to laugh.
They stayed that way until they both fell asleep.
The next morning, Johnny woke up to the feeling of pain in the arm that Peter had been resting on. He didn't want to wake Peter up, but a slight shift was all it took to do that.
Johnny sat up to massage the arm and when the yawning Peter realized what was happening, he apologized, "I'm so sorry!"
"It's alright," Johnny reassured. "I just can't believe we fell asleep like that." He got off the bed and asked if Peter was alright since the bed was not made for two people. It was Peter's turn to reassure him that he slept just fine.
Just then an orderly walked in, carrying breakfast.
"We must have both slept fine as it looks like we over-slept," Peter remarked.
"Which means, I have to get going," Johnny said. He started gathering up his laptop and documents.
After the orderly left, Peter asked, "Can you stop by my place and bring me my laptop when you come back later?"
"Why? You shouldn't be working," Johnny chastised as he tidied up his work space.
"I feel fine," Peter said. "In fact, I wish they would discharge me already."
At that, Johnny stopped what he was doing and responded with sarcasm, "I didn't realize you had a medical degree on top of your law degree."
"Very funny," Peter dead-panned in response. "Seriously though, I need to take everything you've told me and put it with everything else we have on Victor Drakos. Then I need to speak to my boss about it all. And I can't do any of that without my laptop…and probably some of those documents you are taking with you."
Johnny looked at Peter with a confused expression and asked, "And how exactly do you plan to type up all this stuff with one hand?"
"Oh," was all Peter said as he realized the truth Johnny had just pointed out.
Johnny smiled indulgently at his partners knitted brows, "Okay. How about we do this? I'll go to work for the meetings regarding Greece that I have this morning, then I'll swing by your place and bring the laptop as requested. Then you can tell me what to type for you."
"Wow, I get a very over-qualified secretary?," Peter laughed. " By the way, the meetings you're talking about…those aren't based on what was in the documents Max got from the Drakon family are they?"
"They are indeed," Johnny answered.
Peter was surprised, "So soon? Wow."
Johnny nodded, "They all had reps fly out as soon as I contacted them. How could they resist what we offered?"
