Chapter 4

The Portland Police department, South Precinct, the fabled place in the world of Grimm. It sent shivers down the spine of many wesen criminals and also the place which housed the most deadliest duo, the Grimm and the kehrseite, detective Nick Burkhardt and detective Hank Griffin. It also housed the mutated lycanthrope Sergeant Wu and last but not the least the infamous Royal bastard, the half Zauberbeist, Captain Sean Renard.

Walking inside the somewhat oldish looking building Nick made his way into the homicide division. The time was around 9 and the desks were just starting to be filled with homicide detectives.

Nick saw many of the guest stars inside the office, Detective Meecham, Detective Pogue and the somewhat regular Sergeant Franco.

Giving them a slight nod Nick sat on his desk and started sifting through the paperwork, getting himself up to speed with the cases which were still pending. Some cases were still fresh in the memories which he inherited and some were not and this required him to study it up and being an ex 16 year old highschooler didn't help him in this.

Though he had inherited Nick's passive skills from before he became the Grimm such as his artistic skills, sharp memory power to the point of being almost eidetic he wasn't that good at using them as of now. It was a whole different story of being born with or training to a level of mastery of such powers and waking up one day in someone else's body and to be able to use their skills. This would take him atleast a month of practice before he could use these skills like his very own.

Not being able to exactly find any shortcut to complete his work, Nick sifted through one case ofter another and picked up the telephone every now and then to call for information from different places or asking witnesses to come to the station to write down a report or asking the families of the victims to prepare statement of what they had lost during various robbery homicide cases and cross examining them with the goods which had been confiscated from fencers arrested by the Burgulary division.

Just like this before he realised half a day had passed and he felt hungry from all the work. "Shit, why should a 16 year old kid like me start working. No, I am a 25 year old man. Fuck!! I got duped by all the tv shows that I had watched. It only showed cops running around with guns, shooting at suspects, infiltrating some mafia base, interrogating suspects and getting to see hot chicks with guns every day. It never said that the paper work would be this tedious. I have had hardly any rest" Nick scowled inside his mind while eating the pizza he had ordered.

He looked around to see that Hank hadn't arrived today and so was the captain's office empty. Checking out his mobile to see if he had received any call/message from Hank, he did not find anything.

'Well though it has been a year since we had become partners, we haven't become as close as we would be in the future' thought Nick as he devoured a slice of Pizza on his desk as he continued to  look at the paperwork before him.

"Yet another hit and run, yet another unnamed dead body, yet another killer on loose" mumbled Nick as he sifted through the case file. Basically it was a hit and run where the victim's belongings were stolen inorder to prevent us from easily identifying the victim. Further the killer had gone a step further and poured acid on the person's fingertips and disfigured his face to make sure none of our identification process works.

"This doesn't sound like your regular run in the mill hit and run. This could possibly be premeditated".

After reading quite a few case files and with the experience he had gained from his memories deducing whether it was hit and run or a premeditated murder was a piece of cake, especially so for Nick who has had a sharp increase in his intelligence and has obtained eidetic memory. Though he hasn't gained control of this ability, the ability still would have its effects albeit not as ridiculous as it sounds.

"Why hasn't there been any progress? It's been two whole weeks since the time of the crime". Nick mumbled as he shifted to the next case file while eating another slice of pizza.

This was the reality. Though many shows portray the police officers solving every case that comes across their desk, the number of cases actually being solved are vastly overshadowed by the number of crimes actually happening.

It was humanly not possible to find the crux of the problem for every single case. If by the end of 48 hours they don't get anything they move onto the next case and the hit and run being a case of more than 2 weeks, it was useless to work on such cases, though one can always spend their own private time to solve such cases.

When it was around three, Nick completed his paperwork, had read the case files and had called for witnesses to come to the station for reporting. With his work done finally Nick placed his attention towards his short term goals.

Quickly accessing the internet, Nick browsed through the local Mixed Martial arts training centers and shortlisted the ones near his home. Selecting the one which is two streets next to his home Nick went on to search the shooting ranges affiliated with the Portland Police Department to select the one to visit regularly.

Since there wasn't any specific timing for work Nick took off with his bag after giving the captain's room a fleeting glance to see the cabin still empty. Using the memories he inherited Nick traced his way back to his medium sized apartment in which he used to live with his aunt Marie and hit the couch to take some rest before making his way to the MMA training center to sign up. When the time was around 6 in the evening Nick put on a black tracks along with a matching black T-shirt and set off to the training center in hopes that it would be to his liking.

Two streets away from his house stood a rather decently presentable signboard to a medium sized building which looked more like a regular gym barring the name presented in the neon signboard. "Adrenaline" was the name of the center and it was followed by "with MMA training facility". Taking a deep breath Nick made his way inside the building. Sounds of people hitting the mit and punching bags could be heard from the entrance itself followed by shouts from the trainers instructing on the combos to perform or correcting the stance of the people whom they are training.

As soon as he entered the training facility Nick greeted the receptionist before asking for a tour to the facility. Entering inside the gym Nick could see various equipment which were quite common in the gyms however it had additional equipment specifically prepared for fighters. A ring was also present and currently a bald trainer with a fit physique could be seen with a mit in both hands giving instructions to a short haired guy who was about 5'9 with a shredded physique.

Nick looked around the facility to find different kinds of equipments along with additional machines such as a treadmill having an oxygen mask and computer system to monitor heart rate and other wires to check a person's body fat percentage, heart rate, the speed with which he was running and other technical shit which Nick couldn't understand.

"Well feels like the facilities are good, I'll consider joining after doing a bit more research on my computer" thought Nick as he made his way to the receptionist to ask for the fee amount which came down to an affordable package along with a personal trainer.

Satisfied from what he has obtained today Nick went back to his apartment and called an early night after giving Julliette a call to talk about the day.
