Just when they were both in despair, thinking that everything was coming to an end, Ivan saw a black dog, huge as a bear, suddenly emerge from the side alley.
It was Sirius Black who lunged ferociously at the werewolf's body.
The two rolled in the snow, Black grabbed the werewolf's neck and yanked it back, keeping it away from Ivan and Hermione.
Greyback was clawing madly and trying to tear the big black dog apart.
The werewolf and the dog tangled, their jaws against each other's chin, and their claws tearing at each other's fur.
The other three stepped aside and were completely overwhelmed by the spectacle. If Ivan's orthodox magical fight against Greyback was impressive, how about Black's full-on physical encounter with the werewolf?
The two were beating each other in the most primal manner, biting each other's flesh to the point of bleeding.
"Stupid, leave the dog, and go bite the two young wizards," The masked dark wizard shouted sternly.
He waved his wand and was ready to separate the werewolf from the large dog on top of him.
But he stopped immediately when he saw a huge figure, far beyond an ordinary man, running in his direction from the alley.
It was Hagrid, who shouted Ivan and Hermione's names.
The Dark Wizard cast an impressive spell at Hagrid. As with Greyback, the latter's body only swayed slightly as he rushed forward screaming.
"Damn, damn!" The Dark Wizard shouted, as he prepared to use Avada Kedavra.
Before he could do so, a few red lights came from behind Hagrid, and he had to bend down to avoid the spells.
Ivan struggled to lift his head and saw Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick and the two Ministry of Magic aurors following Hagrid.
It was a rescue, he and Hermione were saved.
Ivan could finally breathe a sigh of relief. He was really tired and exhausted today, and he had nothing left.
It didn't take him long to see nothing but darkness.
"Enough, that's enough! I will never cooperate with a werewolf again, EVER!" the masked black man rose from the ground. He ran towards Sirius Black and Greyback, sharply waving his wand.
He managed to separate them and Black wanted to run back, but failed.
The dark wizard immediately grabbed his werewolf companion and the two instantly disappeared from their place.
Black froze, his body bruised, and he barked painfully backwards, looking at Ivan and Hermione. Then he disappeared into the dark corner of the street.
...
When Ivan regained consciousness, he realized he was back in the school infirmary, his limbs were like lead, and his eyes were too heavy to lift.
He forced his eyes open and found himself lying on a comfortable bed. He could see Madam Pomfrey at one end of the room, her back to him and leaning over the edge of the bed.
Ivan moved his head on the pillow. Hermione was lying on the bed to his right. The moonlight was shining on her head with her eyes open.
She looked terrified, and when she saw that Ivan woke up, her face was relieved.
Seeing that Ivan wanted to speak, Hermione quickly put a finger to his lips and pointed to the side door of the school hospital. The door was half open, and Ivan heard the voice of the Minister of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, from the outside corridor past the door.
"This is shocking, shocking, the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback, appeared in Hogsmeade. And he actually attacked two students It was a miracle that neither of these two children died!"
"Fortunately, young Mason is very strong. He resisted the monster for a while, if it wasn't for that..." That was Professor McGonagall's voice.
"Yes, Minerva, it was all thanks to Ivan!" Fudge agreed uneasily. "Who would have thought this would happen? When the attack happened, we were sitting in the Three Broomsticks Inn, if it was a more serious incident, I can't imagine what 'The Prophet' newspaper would be saying tomorrow morning."
"The Ministry has already been in a mess because of Sirius Black's escape, and here is Fenrir Greyback coming to add fuel to the fire and both are the most dangerous criminals wanted at the moment." Fudge sighed. "And the Dementors, I just saw them, they demanded reinforcements and an increase in their numbers."
"You wouldn't approve of their demand, would you, Fudge? There are already 200 of these monsters lurking outside Hogwarts, this isn't Azkaban. Those horrible creatures are floating all over the place, how are we supposed to teach?!" Professor McGonagall said plainly, "Albus will not agree to this matter."
"Yes!" said Professor Flitwick, shouting. "I don't think we can keep increasing the number of Dementors, they have had no effect, except to spread fear. They're not doing anything. They haven't captured Sirius Black, they didn't stop Greyback. Two months ago, they even tried to attack a student."
"Like you, I don't like them either, but with the current situation, it's very hard for me not to approve. As we did after the Basilisk attack last semester, the Ministry of Magic must take measures to preserve the safety of young wizards attending school at Hogwarts." Fudge twisted his body. "I will speak to Dumbledore about this and he will agree."
"There is nothing to talk about in this matter. I have told you my position on this, Cornelius." Dumbledore's voice came. He had just arrived at the school hospital. "Do you remember the conversation we had before the start of term? Two hundred Dementors is the limit of what I can accept."
When he heard Dumbledore's words, Fudge smiled awkwardly and remembered the conversation.
More precisely, it was more like compensation. He agreed to support Dumbledore in hiring a werewolf to be a teacher at Hogwarts, while Dumbledore supported his decision to bring the Dementors to the school to help the Ministry of Magic capture Sirius Black as soon as possible.
Looking at Dumbledore's calm face, Fudge was embarrassed, and had a strange feeling. Even though he was the Minister of Magic, the man he was facing was the greatest white wizard in the modern world, he had nothing to do but accept his decisions.
He felt terrible, but Fudge had to admit that he needed Dumbledore's support.
With Dumbledore's prestige, if he had to replace him with someone else, he knew it would be no easy task!
