Ivan suddenly realized that the one who was paying the Galleons to Greyback and his companion was none other than Lucius Malfoy.
As a former Death Eater, Lucius surely knew these guys, and only he had enough money to summon them.
The question now was, what does he want to do?
Ivan didn't see how this could be good for the Malfoy family. If it was ever discovered that he was the puppet master behind the scenes, Lucius would be in big trouble.
'Something's wrong, there must be something I don't know about,' He glanced hurriedly at Dumbledore beside him, who looked calm. Ivan couldn't understand what he was thinking.
"Those things really did happen, but what does this have to do with you?" Dumbledore's blue eyes kept looking at Lucius.
"It has nothing to do with me, but it has a lot to do with the unpleasant news I bring." said Malfoy accentuating his words. "It is so terrible. You may not have realized what happened."
"What happened?" asked Fudge unconsciously. He twisted his body and felt a little uncomfortable.
"A werewolf riot!" Lucius said slowly, and his tone was too calm for the words he was saying. "While Hogsmeade was being attacked by that werewolf, there were many other attacks in Muggle towns. On this unfortunate night of the full moon, werewolves spontaneously gathered and attacked Muggles. The exact number of victims has not yet been determined, but before I arrived, it was said that over thirty people had been bitten. The injured Muggles had been taken to St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Illness and Injury."
"What?!" Fudge's eyes widened and his face went pale. "Are you kidding, Lucius? how could there be werewolf attacks? no one has told me about this until now!"
"These are my personal intelligence sources, Minister!" Lucius narrowed his eyes and continued, "My sources are very reliable. I don't think it will be long before the Ministry informs you of the details."
"This is not possible. All werewolves are under the control of the Werewolf Registry. They can't-," Cornelius stopped suddenly. Just an hour ago, right under his nose, a werewolf attack had occurred.
When Ivan and Hermione had mentioned this matter, he had thought it was the ramblings of two children, and instinctively he was unwilling to believe that this would ever happen.
But now that Lucius Malfoy had also informed him of this, what Ivan and Hermione were talking about was no longer just a conspiracy, the attack actually happened!
And it wasn't just one or two isolated attacks, it was a full blown riot!
Fudge wished someone would show up telling him that this was just a dream. He looked at Lucius again to make sure he wasn't joking, but that fantasy of his was instantly shattered.
Whether he wanted to believe it or not, there had been a massive werewolf attack!
The room was quiet and the atmosphere was terrible. No one spoke. They were shocked by the terrible news brought by Lucius Malfoy.
Ivan was lying on the bed with thoughts in his head.
He analyzed the whole situation with the information he had. Lucius Malfoy had summoned these werewolves to launch a full scale attack on Muggles, How does this benefit him?
Obviously, Lucius' biggest goal is to get Dumbledore away from Hogwarts. How would triggering a werewolf riot help him with that?
Wait a second! Werewolves? Hogwarts? Professor Lupin is a werewolf!
Then he thought Lucius shouldn't know Professor Lupin's secret.
However, Ivan could never be sure of that. After all, there were many who knew that Professor Lupin was a werewolf. In hiring him, Dumbledore told the other professors about the matter, and also Cornelius Fudge, to get the consent of the Ministry of Magic.
Although they did not trust Lupin, he did not participate in the attacks on Muggles.
In fact, he did not harm anyone. He was safe. This makes Lucius' action completely meaningless.
If he was going to reveal Professor Lupin's identity to the masses after such attacks, the most he could accomplish by doing so was to drive him away from the school. This wouldn't involve Dumbledore anyway.
Unless! If you find a way to prove that Professor Lupin was also involved in this riot,....
Ivan looked at Lucius. He had a smug smile on his face. However, Snape's face next to him was grim.
Just as Ivan was about to say something, a large grey owl flew in through the window. It was a messenger from the Ministry of Magic. It went straight to Fudge.
He quickly pulled the letter out of the owl's mouth. He took the envelope apart and read it carefully. His face showed well how bad it was.
"Dear Lucius, what you said has been verified. There really was a large werewolf riot." Fudge's voice was not loud, but it rang through the silent room. He turned and looked at Dumbledore, saying in panic, "I'm sorry, Albus! I must get back to the Ministry as soon as possible to deal with this unexpected incident. If you can, I hope that..."
He had not finished his words when he was interrupted.
The door to the room opened again. And this time, it was Percy who passed through. He hastened to look frightened.
"Professor! Professor!" Percy gasped and looked anxiously at Dumbledore. He was so agitated that his voice was trembling. "You've got to see this, Professor! A werewolf has appeared in the castle - it's attacking the students!"
Hearing his words, everyone held their breath as they looked at Percy in amazement. The mood in the room was heavy.
Ivan noticed that Lucius' face wore an expression of triumph for a second.
Snape, who was standing off to the side, actually looked a little surprised. But then his face returned to its dark state again.
...
An hour before these events, Harry was sitting alone in the Great Dining Hall.
He didn't know where Ron was going, and they hadn't seen each other for the afternoon. As for Ivan and Hermione, he heard Fred and George say that they went to Hogsmeade. He didn't know what went wrong to make them so late.
Before that, Colin and Ginny came in to invite him to sit with them, but he declined.
He just wanted to be alone, he was so confused. He just wanted to think about what Professor Lupin told him in the morning about his parents. He couldn't even remember how he got from Lupin's office to the Gryffindor Common Room, and how he got to the Great Dining Hall.
He only knew that he wasn't in tune with the cheerful atmosphere around him. Besides him, everyone else was happily discussing arrangements for the Christmas vacations.
Harry was indifferent to it all. Even when he got the news from the Hufflepuff table that Ivan and Hermione were dating, it didn't faze him at all.
He stared at the plate in front of him, and all he could think about was his parents and Sirius Black.
