Chapter 223: Vampires

Ivan was bound tightly by the red chain that suddenly appeared, and he fell heavily to the ground.

Regardless of the pain, he struggled to get up and failed. his body was covered with cold sweat and he wondered what the girl wanted.

Ivan tried several successive spells, but none of them had been released.

These red chains not only bound his body, but also emitted a strange magic, which blocked the magic in his body.

Ivan looked up and saw the girl swaying like a kitten.

She looked dazed, as if she had just woken up, and her expression had not changed at all. To her, subduing him with this unprecedented spell seemed a trivial task.

The girl did not speak, and went straight to Ivan's side. Her crimson eyes fell on his neck. She looked undecided and swallowed.

Beneath the wide, dark robe, one could not pinpoint where she had placed the short wand. The girl wrinkled her nose and sniffed again, then extended a pale little hand to Ivan.

Despite his thick clothes, Ivan could feel the girl's hand like ice, really cold, even colder than the winter night air.

Since he was very close, he could smell a strange odor on her.

It wasn't the girl's peculiar smell like Hermione's, but a faint smell of blood.

Ivan could be sure that the stains on her black robe were not traces of potions or magical drinks, but drops of blood falling on her.

Red eyes, pale skin, cold body temperature, smell of blood, when all these are descriptions of a person, they are proof enough to conclude that ....

This girl is a vampire!

Ivan had only doubts, but now he was completely sure.

He couldn't believe his luck was so bad. In Diagon Alley, on the opposite corner of the most prosperous shopping street in the world of wizards and magic, where there were so many wizards, it was he who casually met a vampire that other wizards had never met in their lives.

Even in a dark alley, if you want to meet a vampire, you have to be lucky enough to hit the jackpot.

You have to know that in the wizarding world, vampires do exist. But they are very rare; their number is scarce and many mysteries revolve around them.

Vampires usually pay much attention to the protection of their own secrets and, as a rule, do not come into active contact with the mainstream magical society. They have their own closed society and rules of survival.

Even if there is occasional contact, it is difficult to identify them.

With this, many wizards even thought that vampires were extinct, or that they were simply fabricated magical creatures, existing only in mythological stories.

Ivan vaguely recalled that in the original book there was no excessive description of vampires.

After Voldemort returned, he sent a Death Eater to contact various dark creatures and overthrow the Ministry of Magic. The three most desired allies were werewolves, giants and vampires, especially vampires, but they declined Voldemort's invitation.

In the original book, there seemed to be something big going on within the vampire community. They didn't have the energy to worry about anything else, and ultimately didn't participate in the war.

Looking at the vampire girl in front of him, she looked hungry, wanting to jump on his neck and suck his blood....

Ivan swallowed, and his body shuddered in reflex.

Because he didn't expect to meet a vampire, he didn't collect relevant books, and the second year Defense Against the Dark Arts class had no content about them.

Normally, Defense Against Vampires is a seventh-grade course, or an elective, based entirely on the teacher's mood and personal preferences.

Occasionally, there may be vampire-related questions on the Advanced Wizard level test, which were also very simple.

The only thing Ivan had in mind about vampires was from last year, when he was bored enough to flip through Lockhart's "Travels with Vampires."

With Lockhart's peculiar hyperbole, the book describes in detail a vampire he met on his journey, and how he fought with wit and courage, went through life-and-death battles, and finally defeated him.

Although there are many exaggerations, and although it was not Lockhart's personal experience, this book was based on a true story.

The girl in front of him exactly matched the description of the vampire in the book.

According to "Travels with Vampires," becoming deformed into a vampire is, like the werewolf, acquired.

But unlike werewolves, where anyone, as long as they are bitten, can be infected to become a werewolf; the way to become a vampire is called the first embrace.

The whole process is extremely demanding and the success rate is very low.

The first embrace can cause great harm to the vampires themselves. They do not do it randomly, and usually choose only intimate and talented mages.

All sorts of limiting factors add up, which greatly limits the number of vampires.

In the traditional sense, the first embrace is considered to be a kind of magical ritual.

This magic evolved from ancient black magic that specialized in the study of the dead spirit, the dark wizard of the devil, sacrifice to the undead and the summoning of the demon. Thus, unlike other magical creatures such as elves, house elves, centaurs and werewolves, the first embrace is the only way to become a vampire, and vampires are considered to be the result of the mutation of wizards.

They are not magical creatures in essence, but wizards whose magical power has mutated under the influence of magic, and are more taboo than evil dark wizards.

This point can be seen in the internal scenarios of the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures of the Ministry of Magic.

As we all know, the Department is divided into several Divisions, responsible for all matters related to the management of magical creatures in the magical world.

So far, the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures includes the Centaur Office, the Dangerous Creature Removal Committee, the Dragon Research and Control Office, the Pest Advisory Council, the Troll Management Office, the Werewolf Registry, the Werewolf Capture Unit, the Goblin Liaison Office, the House Elf Relocation Office, the Ghost Division, and so on.

None of them are related to vampires.

When a wizard is bitten by a transformed werewolf and becomes a werewolf like Lupin, he has to report to the Werewolf Registry.

If he refuses support from the Ministry of Magic, then the werewolf will be tracked by the Werewolf Capture Unit.

However, if a wizard becomes a vampire, his form and appearance do not change much.

He will still be considered a human being, a wizard, just like a dark wizard, not accepted or trusted by mainstream society, and considered a more evil being.

But as long as he doesn't infringe on others and suck their blood, he has nothing to fear.

Sounds simple, but it is practically impossible. Unlike ordinary magicians, vampires' strength comes mainly from blood.

The stronger the magic contained in the blood, the more power they acquire. Although it is possible to survive on the blood of an animal, a vampire's power slowly fades when consumed for a long time, unless it is a magical creature of extraordinary power.

In the end, it is even possible for them to lose magic forever.

Because they must consume magical blood, among the targets that can be hunted, the blood of a mage is easier to obtain than that of dangerous and powerful magical creatures. So even though it is forbidden, there are still vampire attacks against wizards.

But with the number of vampires getting smaller and smaller, such attacks have gradually disappeared.
