Chapter 570: First communication with the water people

The Hogwarts Magical Newspaper report on the Triwizard Tournament and the contents of the interview were printed and published the day after the interview.

This report caused much sensation and reaction in the magical world.

Aside from the vampire hunt, which had not progressed very far, the Triwizard Tournament was the hottest topic in the magical world.

Every wizard wanted to know who the champions of the three wizarding schools were and wanted to meet them. They also wanted to know the specific reasons why there was one more champion, as well as the content of the tournament, etc.

Ivan and Hermione's reports were very timely, and the detailed content also satisfied everyone's curiosity. Sales were very good.

This was not surprising, but it was strange that Rita Skeeter's report had not come out.

She and the Daily Prophet did not seem to be in a hurry. Obviously, their concerns were not the same as Ivan's and Hermione's.

It seemed that they were going to wait for the heat of this report in Hogwarts Magic to pass before publishing their own report.

Over the next two weeks, school life returned to its former quiet.

Hufflepuff and Slytherin seemed to be tired of the endless hostility with Gryffindor. Although they were not very friendly, they went back to talking to each other in normal communication. Only when confronted with Ron did they show obvious hostility and endless teasing.

Gabrielle was becoming more and more familiar with everyone and became almost a full member of Gryffindor.

Ron also finally recovered from the excitement of becoming champion and began to think about how to deal with the first task.

He finally began to dread having to perform an unfamiliar, dangerous and extremely difficult task in front of all the students in the school. With the help of Ivan, Harry and Hermione, he finally learned a lot of magic and spells.

These were very low level; Ron had skipped too many lessons before and had a lot to learn.

However, Ivan didn't see how learning these low-level spells could help him deal with dragons.

And Ron didn't study too much, as he spent too much energy on other things. Although he was beginning to attach importance to this matter, in general, he still did not realize the seriousness of the situation and did not think that the first task would be to face a fire dragon.

Aside from occasionally guiding Ron, Ivan's research was finally getting underway. At least, that's what he thought. He memorized most of the words he saw in the book.

The second weekend, he was ready to go to the lake to try to communicate with the water people and test the results of his learning.

If he was lucky, he might get information about the keys to the secret treasure of the Four Founders.

Unlike the lake near the Moon Temple of the Centaur colony, the lake in front of the school's castle was wider and deeper.

After five minutes of rapid immersion in a dark, uncomfortable and strange scene, Ivan reached the bottom of the lake.

There was a jungle of wavy, tangled black plants and wide, flat sands with shiny pebbles.

Moving forward, he could encounter a merman and a giant squid at any moment.

In the central position of the lake, he also saw many newt remains.

For example, a large rock emerged from the muddy water. It had paintings of water people on it; they were carrying spears and chasing what looked like the giant squid or a strangely shaped stone statue.

After exploring a bit, Ivan found the tribe of water people in the deepest depression in the center of the lake. It was a group of rough stone dwellings stained with algae.

As Ivan approached, in the dark windows, faces suddenly appeared and looked at him. They were all water people, and the scene was quite eerie.

In the deepest part of the dark water, Ivan was instantly surrounded by water people coming out from all directions.

Unlike the blonde mermaids in fairy tales, they had grayish skin and long, wild, dark green hair, with a mischievous grin on their faces, as if they were monsters from the abyss.

Their eyes were yellow, as were their broken teeth, and they wore thick ropes of pebbles around their necks.

These beings slapped the water with their powerful silver fish tails. Upon seeing Ivan, they said nothing and did not attack, spears clutched in their hands.

After a brief contact, Ivan was able to communicate with them calmly. Of course, he did so not with the language he had just learned, but with magic.

It was actually not very difficult. The water people looked fierce, but when they saw the light coming from Ivan's wand, they immediately turned and fled back to the stone dwellings.

Ivan had never seen such a timid creature, and they stared at his wand with their yellow eyes, looking very frightened.

Although they were numerous and Ivan was alone, the look on their faces showed that, like the giant squid, they knew nothing of magic and remained in awe.

Ivan used magic to control the merman closest to him. He was a very strong guy. He looked with his big yellow eyes at Ivan and his wand in horror, his body trembling.

The next communication was not smooth either. It was not pleasant for Ivan to keep spitting bubbles out of his mouth into the water.

From the look on the face of that guy on the opposite side, Ivan doubted he could understand what he was talking about.

It took him a few seconds to spit a bunch of bubbles at Ivan.

This time, Ivan could be sure that he couldn't understand what the merman was saying. He could only recognize a few words.

Just as he was about to make more attempts, the merman who was under control couldn't take the strain and simply passed out.

Ivan sketched a wry smile, for he had not expected such an outcome.

Looking around, the dark stone dwellings looked like ghost houses, and traces of the tritons were no longer visible.

In the end, she had to give up on the failed exchange and head up the dark, cold lake to return to the castle.

This was definitely not going to work. This failed communication experience told Ivan that he should prepare some gifts for these shy Merpeople. Maybe this would make them feel his goodwill.

From the book "Fantastic Animals and Where to Find Them," he was able to learn that the oldest water people on record appeared in ancient Greece. They lived in warmer waters, had beautiful appearance and powerful magical ability.

After thousands of years of development, water people now existed all over the world, and their appearance was very varied. With the different places they lived in, their appearance and abilities were also different.

Simply put, these water people settled on the lake in front of Hogwarts castle were a group of ugly creatures who knew no magic.

They might have great strength, but they had nothing to do with the Sirens that frequently appeared in many legends and myths.

A fondness for music was probably the only hobby they had inherited from their distant ancestors.

Ivan decided to prepare some human classical music for them the next time he came, which might work.
