Chapter 593: Restricted Black Magic

"How dare you..."

"Very well, Sirius, Severus!" said Dumbledore, stopping them from arguing further. "What happened today is all my negligence. I have not taken into account that such an accident might happen. Mr. Mason has done very well. He has shown great fortitude in times of crisis and has saved the lives of many students!"

"But he used black magic!"

"As for the magic he used, although it is dark magic, it is not forbidden by the Ministry of Magic..." said Dumbledore calmly. "It is only a restraining curse, it is not purely evil dark magic that is not allowed to be used. In short, this accident was all my fault!"

"Dumbledore, it's not your fault. It's the bloodthirsty spell Weasley used to stimulate the dragon - it's also dark magic and shouldn't be used in the test!"

"I didn't!" rushed Ron, "I, I didn't know..."

He looked at everyone and lowered his head again, holding the golden egg tightly in his arms, his body trembling slightly.

Her face was very pale and her body wouldn't stop shaking. He didn't feel the joy of having won the task at all, he just thought he had just used black magic!

No wonder Krum told him not to use such magic. Ron never expected such an outcome.

He had a strong feeling of guilt at the thought that he had used dark magic.

He felt bad, like something terrible was going to come out of his head....

"What happened today really surprised me. I actually saw two dark arts practices at Hogwarts," Karkaroff said, then added sarcastically, "I never thought students could get such quality teaching at Hogwarts."

"Durmstrang has no say in the matter. Don't think people don't know what goes on at your school." Sirius glared at Snape and Karkaroff. "I just asked Ron about the dark magic he used. The champion of your school taught him about it before the test."

"Krum has a good heart, Black. But understanding dark magic and using dark magic are two completely different concepts," Karkaroff scoffed, "Krum only gave a suggestion. Just blame that kid who was stupid enough to use that magic. This also reflects the poor level of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. Your students don't even know how to recognize what dark magic is. Of course, I'm even surprised at the abilities of some of your students!"

"Don't forget what you are, Karkaroff!" Caresius, like Moody, said hoarsely, "Using dark magic doesn't necessarily mean one must be a Dark wizard, and not using dark magic doesn't mean you're not a Dark wizard!"

"Obviously, that's how you teach your students!" The false smile on Karkaroff's face faded and he looked at Moody angrily. "As I said before, as a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, this quality is rare."

"My duty is to teach students how a Dark Wizard would think. In my opinion, it is the champion of your school who is trying to frame Ron. He deliberately told him about this magic, but he didn't tell him that it was Dark Magic that would have bad effects," Moody said in a threatening tone. "You all know that the boy's strength is not that of the other three champions. He was concerned about how to deal with his dragon. As long as he was taught something that could be effective, he was sure to use it!"

"Well, you two, this was obviously just an accident," Ludo Bagman said nervously, "I don't think there's any need for further discussion. Whatever magic he used, Ron has gotten the golden egg. He has performed very well. Whether it was with the broom or the fire protection potion, it was wonderful. And... there were no casualties. We might as well..."

"But he used black magic, which should be forbidden," said Karkaroff, "I suggest giving him zero points!"

"There is no clear provision in the statutes that says champions cannot use dark magic, and those two spells are not banned by the Ministry of Magic. They are restricted dark magic." Said Mr. Crouch suddenly, who had been looking at Ivan, and his voice was as stiff as usual.

"I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're saying. You mean we just pretend nothing happened?" Karkaroff smiled angrily.

"We have to respect the statute. There is no rule in the Triwizard Tournament Bylaws that says we're not allowed to do this. We can't disregard this," Crouch said in a cold voice, "I'm going to give Mr. Weasley ten points!"

"This is ridiculous, you..."

"Are you really questioning me, Karkaroff?!" said Crouch loudly, his eyes wild-eyed, "I think you remember, in my long career, that there is plenty of evidence that I have always hated and despised black magic and all who play with it. I am not endorsing black magic; I am merely stating the facts! I think these two students should be punished for what they have done today. They have used restricted black magic on a whim. This is a very dangerous trend; Hogwarts must strengthen its teaching to prevent this sort of thing from happening again!"

"Let me deal with it, Barty!" said Dumbledore calmly, "We must remember that magic itself is not good or bad, the key is in the use of magical purposes. Dark magic, which distorts the mind of the user and the nature of life, is not to be defended, like the Unforgivable Curses! Don't get excited, Iger. I don't mean you can use other dark magic, but we must treat the young with tolerance and allow them to make mistakes. Minerva, Mr. Mason and Mr. Weasley are your students, and you are in charge. By the way, I'm also going to give Mr. Weasley ten points. He has done well, much better than I expected of him."

"I'm giving Ron ten too. He flies very well!" said Bagman, his face showing an expression of relief, "Come on, there's a champion waiting for the test, we must go out!"

In the end, Dumbledore, Bagman and Crouch gave Ron ten points, and Madame Maxime gave seven. Karkaroff reluctantly gave three points and seemed to still be angry about the incident.

But he really couldn't say anything, nor could he pursue this matter. Those two spells had not been banned by the Ministry of Magic.

Dark magic is divided into many types, such as Unforgivable Curses, which were absolutely forbidden spells. Using those curses on humans meant a life sentence in Azkaban. There are also two types of dark magic just used by Ivan and Ron, which belong to the restricted type of magic.

These spells are numerous and are not strictly black magic.

They are not as evil, but they are restricted because they are more lethal or use magical materials in a cruel and less humane way.

But as long as there are legitimate reasons to use this type of black magic, there will be no punishment.
