Chapter 14 — Red

Watching clocks is one of Red’s pet hates, but he’s lived his life by the bloody things and right now he’s watching the one on the Hilux dash, which says 7.12. They should be at the Glen by 7.20, unless, of course, Buddha rolls the ute on this next corner.

Red tells Buddha to take it easy. Buddha laughs and floats the ute around the curve, a big ghost gum looming in the headlights. If Buddha fucks up they’ll be T-boned on that tree.

Red pushes Oksy’s shoulder behind her seat belt. Buddha accelerates, trying to pull the vehicle out of its slide but they might as well be riding ball bearings. The tree goes past and Red holds Oksy, bracing for a whack on the rear end of the Hilux. They make it through.
