Next Keeper

Kiera's POV(Continued)

The lights didn’t flicker, but loud music boomed from somewhere in the house. I recognized the song as one of those slow jams sung by a band I’ve never heard of that mum favored for some reason.

Mum and I stopped, sharing a confused glance. The music got louder and closer before we could say anything. We dropped our spray guns and walked out of the shop as one, just as a man’s voice crooned about the love of his life.

Waiting for us in the alcove that joined the shop and the stairs that led to the house was the cackling ghost I’d met on the stairs yesterday. Floating beneath where her feet should be was a small mp3 player. Her eyes were still of an unknown color -mostly because I was avoiding straing directly into her eyes- and chipped tooth was on full wide display as she let loose an ear splitting cackle. Mum gave a shout of terror and I flinched when a loud crash thundered in the house. Something white zoomed past us, heading straight into the shop.
