Tat's a strange guy, but that's to be expected, considering the type of household he grew up in. However, it was much more than just being the son of a gangster; that is not enough reason to want his own father dead, and he is a bit stranger than the average gangster's son.
When a child exhibits abnormal behaviour, people can't help to look to their parents and how they were raised. Tats mother was the most beautiful woman that da-hee had ever seen, even prettier than her sister, which was rare. She had bright blonde hair, not too tall, but not short either. A foreigner, She may have been French, but da-hee was never sure because she never asked. She was so kind and fair, it's hard to imagine how someone like her ended up with Mr Cha, but then again in every marriage people change, that's what people do. It's safe to assume that Mr cha was kinder and sweeter when they first met, but as time went on, his love and obsession with power grew more than his love for her, and that love eventually became a means for control.
Nobody knew what was going on in Mr Cha's mind, maybe it was jealousy or he was simply going mad. As time went on, he reduced how much she could leave the house until she wasn't allowed to leave at all. Tat's once told da-hee, that he overheard his father speaking to his mother; telling her that 'she was so beautiful that he didn't want anyone to see her, and all he did, he did for love'.
How ridiculous, did he suddenly realize how beautiful she was after years of marriage? Da-hee thought to her self, but she never let the issues between Mr Cha and his wife linger in her mind for too long. Besides, She always believed that he would eventually let her out of the house. He couldn't keep her trapped in there forever.
One hot afternoon, when the summer brake had just begun, as tats and da-hee went to his home just after school had ended, they found tats mom hanging from the roof. She had been there for hours as no one was in the house with her. Tats screamed and cried and tried to help her but it was to no avail, she was gone. Da-hee did the best she could to console him. After, Da-hee always tried to understand why she did what she did, who knows what other manner of things Mister Cha did to his wife when they were alone. Or maybe, humans are not meant to be trapped in home's all alone, especially by the ones that they love.
