Chapter 60: Unimaginable Power: Part 1

Author's Note: What's up! I promised that I would give 1 or 2 chapters today so, I will deliver! These first chapters will be showing a lot of perspective changes as pretty much everyone on the Kragstelo Continent, and some people from around the world, are watching the attack on the Proving. Enjoy!

(A Few Hours Before The Attack On The Proving)

This city...

It is much larger than I thought it would be. Well, it will be having around 12 000 people stay there for the Proving so, I guess I was wrong to assume it to be smaller. We are still some thousands of meters away from the city but, I can see it just fine. I can easily write it off as some sort of power I gained from the Black God or something.

"So, what is your concern? Don't tell me you are planning on backing out now?"

That's right. I only just told this plan to everyone else in this religious group but, no one actually objected. I guess I don't really have to use my mind influencing power on them too much then. Anyway, the only one who had some sort of concern was Quantix.

He may look to only have muscles for brains but, when I asked Genero, he said that when they studied in the same school, he got the best marks on both physical and academic education. It must be where he learned the basics of fighting if he is already as powerful as he is now. My mind influencing power seems to be affecting him much less than the regular members of the group.

Probably because he has endured such harsh training that his mental fortitude is top-notch. That may become a problem later along the line so, I already set a plan that is happening right now.

"With all due respect, Great Seer-"

"We are sorry for being late, Sir. Oh, you're here as well, Quantix?"

Phase One has already been completed. I was able to extract some information from the regular members of the group and they said that these 4 are all best friends. Such great bonds will be the key to ending his suspicion. If they are here as well, he wouldn't want to inconvenience his friends with his own problems.

Plus, I already have an idea on what he is about to ask me so, I already have prepared a perfect response. Humans have the capacity to feel emotions. This could be counted as their greatest strength, but can also be their greatest weakness at the same time. An emotional response will be better than a practical one because emotions seem to take priority over their reasoning in most regular humans.

The only ones who could resist that approach would be ones who closed their hearts or are incapable of feeling empathy. Also, I can muddy their reasoning by making them relate to me so that they will be caught up on their emotions. If Quantix tries to resist, he will be branded someone who ruins the mood so, this is the best plan of action.

"I am here to ask you something."

"Oh, really? Then, we will listen to you as well."

"So, what did you want to ask me, Avant Quantix?"

That is his title. It was the title used for the people who would be the first unit to fight in the wars back in my world.

"Why did you suggest we kill everyone in Quaran? There must certainly be a much better solution than this, right?"

"My dear Quantix. You came to me to ask why those people must die?"

"I need to know. I can't let any lives be wasted. Not anymore."

Oh?

"Then I will provide you my best explanation. The people in this world stay alive because they all have Mana in their body circulating within them, correct?"

"Yes, that is elementary. Anyone older than 8 should already know that."

"If that is so then, you should know the exact phrases the teacher said to you when explaining the importance of Mana to this world. They might have said something like 'Mana is the lifeblood of the world', correct?"

"Yes... No, you don't mean-"

"You must understand now. They weren't exaggerating when they said that this world runs on Mana. The world is dying. Haven't you realized that once there was a sudden boom in monster populations around the world? The monsters are vile creatures that feast on Mana and have been targeting humans more and more because of their growing magical potential. "

"Then, why can't we just kill all of the monsters instead of real people?!"

"That is because... I have already done this before."

"What?"

Time for the emotional story to trick them here and now. I'll run my mind influencing power on high-mode now.

"I already told you that I want to save this world. Surely I wouldn't say that if I haven't done this before, right? There were many worlds I saved on the orders of the Black God but, I have failed just as many. In worlds not too different from this one, I adamantly refused to kill people as much as possible and targeted monsters only. That only led to them thinking humans were a bigger threat due to me being so powerful. They grew so powerful that they wiped out the world with even me having trouble resisting against them."

"But, you are so powerful, Great Seer!"

"Even I have my limits, you know. At that time, I decided that I must close my heart to the suffering. If we can save the entire world with the sacrifice of just 12 000, wouldn't it be all for the greater good? Plus, their life energy will be collected by Tekko and it will be used to bring the Black God here to restore all balance."

This is all a bunch of lies (except the collection of life energy as Tekko can actually do that) but, I put as much emotion into it to make it seem more believable. I'm surprised that I am still able to display this much emotions.

"I see. You already failed like this so many times that you would rather sacrifice the lives of other people. Do you truly believe that you are doing the right thing?"

Quantix looked at me straight in the eye. Saying what I think without hesitation will be suspicious. I need to sound like I am having bad flashbacks of seeing people I know die. It will be easy as I really did see people I know die.

"... Is there any other choice than the one I have?"

"Fine. I will take my leave now."

"Hmm. Quantix is acting weird now. How could he not be moved by his story?"

"Give him some time, Atoma. It is probably because he just remembered some unpleasant experiences himself."

"Alright. We will now leave, Sir."

"Go ahead. But, Genero, stay here."

"Why?"

"I have an important task for you."

"What will I do?"

I know that there is a very low chance for them to kill a low amount of people as I have trained them throughly and gave even the regular members new roles and an additional power aside from their natural ability. I am a perfectionist after all. I will not fail a single time, but I will not think that I am invincible. It's just as they say. 'The enemy of the strong are the weak. The enemy of the weak aren't the strong, but are the even weaker'.

"I want you to give Animus a new mission."

"What shall I tell him?"

"Tell him this: 'In case the attack is a failure, I want you to travel to the Jekiro Continent and find a noble. I want you to gain their trust and make them bring you to the next big world meeting. There, you will assassinate them to show that trust is something that is merely superficial'."

"I have 1 question though. How do you know there will be a meeting? Also, why will he assassinate only one of them?"

"Firstly, the attack on the Proving is bound to make people nervous, leading to concerns for the world. Secondly, we assassinate one of them to make the others feel like they can't trust anyone. After that, we will try to seize control of the government so that we can broadcast our mission to the world. They will eventually comply and the Black God will return balance."

"Wait, couldn't we try something a bit more peaceful?"

I look at Genero and apply pressure and psychical influence on his mind.

"I've been doing this for a long time. You all would have been prosecuted for heresy if I didn't save all of you. This is what the Axis of The Black God will do. Make sure you remember that. Now, off you go to Animus."

"... Um, yes, Great Seer!"

I will soon acquire unimaginable power. Something I have craved for ever since before the Scourge saved me. The power to make and influence the decisions of the entire world.
