The Perfect Lie

After school, Megan and Mabel retired to Mabel's house. For one reason,Megan didn't want to be at her home alone and Mabel needed assistance with some usuals

" I get where the perfect lie is headed now, Mr David didn't have any strength to tell his wife about their dead son so he could only keep the truth that their son was doing fine when in actual facts it was all a lie", Mabel said and giggled.

She had gotten the book from the library, read the synopsis and was now in chapter ten and so far it was good.

Her smile soon ended when she thought about Holden, how was she supposed to help that guy study. It was like trying to get a duck to stop going into water.

Megan noticed how Mabel's emotions fluctuated from being too happy to totally confused so she couldn't help but ask. " Hey what's up? Weren't you just excited moments ago?", she asked and Mabel stared at her softly before sighing.

" I just remembered what Jace and I spoke about earlier at the Library", she said and sighed again.

" Do you know what Holden loves to do the most, any hobbies?", she asked for Megan to nod. Megan knew Holden like a book, years of silently watching and admiring him gave her that experience.

" Holden Langford loves to draw.... He's an artist, it's his speciality. Just think of anything and he would paint the that thing out for you. Why do you wanna know?", Megan finally asked. While remembering Holden she had forgotten to ask the most important question.

" Well Jace said, I should try using different methods to....", Mabel started only to be cut short by the sound of Megan's phone ringing.

" Sorry it's my grand dad", Megan apologized and went to answer it. Mabel just kept wondering, how could she get Holden to study...?

...............

Ding Ding

The door bell rang as Mabel was led inside the mansion by the Butler. She had left her house not too long after Megan left since her Grand Dad had called her because of some important situation. The Butler led her to the living room where she found Jace playing Video game with some other guy she could have sworn she had never seen at school.

" Hi Mabel," Jace said softly "Meet my cousin from my mom's side, his name is Luke Huxley", Jace said without turning around to face Mabel but Luke got up anyways to greet Mabel, she could tell from his hairstyle and perfectly warm smile that he was a playboy but for some reason she couldn't stop herself from smiling back at him.

" Hi Mabel, nice to meet you", he said offering her a nice handshake but before she could return it, someone's cold voice sounded from upstairs.

"You're here, come upstairs now....", Holden ordered and walked away from the railings. " He's not in a bad mood, it's just him being himself don't mind that", Luke explained even though Mabel knew that already.

He still kept his hand out shamelessly and Mabel smiled at him warmly. She hurriedly shook his hand and left for Holden's room.

This time she met another poster on his room door which said ' Come in Without Knocking, not in the mood for knocks'. Mabel shook her head at it. This guy really had time to write out his emotions.

She went into the room to find him already at the study table they used the last time. He had already flipped the book open. She calmly walked towards him only to find out that the book was actually upside down.

" Holden the book is upside down", she said casually and took her seat next to him. As she looked up, she saw him stretch the book out for her. She thought he wanted to give her thinking she didn't have a copy so she showed him hers but he still stretched out his own.

Understanding that he wanted her to take it, she brought out her hand to collect the book but he withdrew it back. Was this some sort of game? " Read", he said calmly and she furrowed her eyebrows. The book was upside down how did he expect her to read?

" Holden I can't understand the words if you turn it upside down. How can you expect me to read in that kind of way?", she said to have him nod and position the book well.

" You plan to help me right? Well just like you do not understand this stupid upside down reading, I don't fucking understand this book in whatever way at all", he said calmly and she sighed. They hadn't even started and she already had an headache.

Suddenly they heard the room door open and out of reflex, both of them turned their head to see who it was. Luke the boy who was just downstairs walked in with a medicine sachet and a bottled water.

He stretched his hands out for her to take it and she stared at him confused. Why was everyone in the house driving her crazy? She didn't ask for Medicines.

Luke understood her furrowed brows and he chuckled without taking his hand back. "This is some painkillers and a bottle of water. Jace told me you were helping Holden study Literature and I thought you needed it", he said and she smiled with gratitude and took it from him.

He left totally ignoring the glares Holden was sending him and she just stared at the tablet.

She started fumbling with it to take one piece but someone's intense gaze fell on her. She wanted to ignore it but couldn't so all she could do was drop the tablet on the desk and bring pick up her copy of the perfect lie.
