"The housekeeper is not," said she. "And I am not dumb enough as you think. I can figure my way out of here."


"You can?"


"Yes, I can."


"Hm." Rochester travelled his hand up to his lips. Bussing his mouth sensually with his thumb, he felt his lips divide. Hoping it would have the desired effect on the girl, he said, "I am still confused. Why haven't you left here already? Is there perhaps something else you would need me to do for you? Want to warm my bed perhaps?"


"You are disgusting, sir! And I hate you!" Louisa yelled, and in a couple of sprints, she was outside his chamber, shutting the door with a slam.

PS. This book is set in thesame fantasy world as my other book, "The Dark Lord's Maiden." You could add up the other book to binge read up to the latest chapters to understand the personality of these characters. But then again this book can also be read as a stand-alone, apart from TDLM.

The Merchant's Bride

It took Rochester peeling his eyes away for Louisa to bounce back to the present day. She had indeed been looking into him for an insanely long time. 


Now, that Rochester had moved his gaze away, she was able to drown in her thoughts and try to understand just how critical Adelaide's state was to have him drive with Simon all the way to her town, simply to coax her to go with them.


In that instant, Louisa's thoughts no longer boiled down the line of Rochester and how she had missed him. Of course, she had missed him. Even watching him stare into her just now had started a feisty battle inside her heart. But the war in her mind was the greater conflict. So yes, she did miss the man and wanted to run into his arms. But he was married now. Simon had made mention of that. Whether he was happy in his union or not was something she would ponder about, but not at this point.
