Commotion

I turned around multiple times to see if I am not hallucinating But we're definitely back. We're legit back. I can't be mistaken!

"Are you done being shocked yet?" Ethan asked. I looked at him and saw that he was eating a banana. There's a bunch on the table as well.

"Where'd you get that?"

"At the castle's kitchen. Want some?" he offered. I shook my head as I headed to the bed and collapsed on top of it. I'm beat. It felt as though all the stress and tension I went through the whole night had built up. And now, the very last thing that I wanted to do is to get up from this bed.

"You're not thinking about going to sleep, are you? I hope not," Ethan said. "Do you know what time is it already?"

I shrugged at his question. "I don't know. Eleven maybe? Or one?"

"It's almost six."

"Excuse me?"

"I said it's almost six. That's why if you don't want to pay extra demi for overstaying, then I suggest you to get up already."

I wanted to scream in frustration. A thirty-minute nap sounded like angels singing to me right now.

"Five minutes."

"No."

Grumpily, I stood from the bed. I regretfully glance at it before distancing myself. Staying away from the temptation of just extending my stay here for at least an hour.

We didn't stay long in the room and decided to check out already. But on our way down, we noticed something odd. There was something about the atmosphere and the way people act that I can't seem to point my finger at. It was kind of unsettling.

They're acting strangely, totally different from how they were yesterday.

Let us say for example, on our way down as we were walking through the hallway headed to the stairs, some would open their door and peek their heads out. And whenever they caught sight of literally even a single person, they would immediately slam their door shut. It's as though they had seen a ghost.

There was also this one man leaning on the railing of the stairs reading a newspaper. We didn't approach him nor do we have any plans on doing so. But as soon as we got near him, he hastily left the place, got inside his room, and locked the door. I mean, heck dude? What's the deal with you lot?

And oh! Ethan was in his rabbit form. He's currently clinging to my shoulder.

"What't the deal with the people this morning?" I asked him as soon as I made sure no one was near.

"How would I know? But a piece of advice though, don't get yourself involved with any of this matter whatever it is. I have a bad feeling."

I took his advice to heart. Getting entangled into some sort of a mess is the least that I wanted.

Our conversation didn't last long enough because there are more and more people surrounding us. But even though they were not avoiding us like those people on the third floor, they were just impossible to approach.

Long gone were the merry singing and laughter yesterday. There are still people drinking even if it was only six in the morning but they were kind of gloomy and tense.

I was about to head straight to the front desk to return the key, but then I halted when I saw some police talking to the tawny-haired young man, the one who assisted us yesterday.

I didn't get to hear even a fraction of their conversation since we were far. But based on the looks on their faces, I can tell that something happened here when we were gone.

But whatever it may be, I don't think it's very serious. Because if it was, I don't think the police will still allow this inn to operate this morning. They're not making any fuss either.

As soon as they left, I didn't waste any time and returned the key. I don't think I wanted to stay at this place even for a second longer. The sooner I got myself out of here, the better.

When we got out of the inn, I called for a horse-drawn carriage. I'm so sleepy that even that creaky wooden bed at the apartment looked so attractive in my mind.

But halfway through, we noticed some commotion at the plaza. Curiosity got the best of me so I stopped there to check what it was. To check what the people are looking at.

I forced my way through the waves of people. But then I halted as soon as I took a glimpse of what was in front.

The scene will be forever etched in my mind.
