Everyone knows the days when they are bothered by their thoughts so they can't sleep. Salem had the same experience right now. She threw herself around in her bed trying to figure out what to do.
It was either joining or not joining Maximilian's organization... now that she thought of it she realized she didn't even know the name of the organization. Joining would give her unlimited access to meat but she will be under the supervision and she will have to work or she could not join and she will have to eat normal bad-tasting food again but she would be free in her decisions and wouldn't need to work for someone.
One sleepless day later Salem came to a decision. She would join the organization. So she called the number Maximilian gave her. Just one ring later she heard the familiar voice of Maximilian over the phone."Hello Salem, I have been waiting for your call."
"Hello, Maximilian. I have good news, I will join your organization under the condition that I get access to a lab. It does not matter if it's shared or not." Salem told Maximilian in her emotionless voice. "That is wonderful news Miss Toga. Welcome to Talon. It is all prepared for your arrival tomorrow I will send one of my people over to explain everything to your mother so don't worry about anything." Maximilian said in a cheerful tone if that was fake or not Salem could not determine. "Ah, so your Organization is named Talon," Salem responded.
Hearing that reply Maximilian began laughing a very mechanical laugh "Oh I forgot to introduce the organization to you, I am sorry for that. I will correct that mistake when you are on your first day at work. Now I have to hang up, I have an important meeting in... 2 minutes so it's goodbye or see you soon I guess."
The next day the doorbell rang. Salem went to open the door, her mother was busy cooking dinner. "Hello, Miss Toga. Maximilian send me." Before Salem stood a man who could only be described as strange. His torso, as well as his head, looked like they were chiseled by God himself, but his arms and legs could only be described as noodles they were so thin you could see the bone.
Probably noticing Salem looking at his arms he said "It's a drawback of my quirk but I can still walk and lift like normal." Salem woke up and told the man, who later introduced himself as Joe, to her inside and take a seat while she informed her mother of his arrival.
While Joe sat down on the couch Salem went to the kitchen. "Who was it Salem?" Akari asked, apparently not having heard the man coming in because of the loud extractor hood. "Mom, I told you about that private school that offered me a free place at their school?" "Of course was there someone from that school at the door?" Akari asked. "Yes, I told him to come in as he would be speaking about the details with you," Salem informed her mother. "Perfect. Could you take over the cooking?" Akari said before going into the living room.
"Good morning ma'am." Joe greeted Akari and returned the greeting before they began to speak about the details.
Salem would stay at the dorm the whole week and only come home every second weekend. Her living expenses were paid by the school, and everything that is not necessary for living was not included.
After agreeing to the terms Akari invited Joe for dinner.
Not long after the meeting with Joe Salem went and moved into the dorms. She had two roommates, one was never at the dorms and if Lilia, her other roommate, was right it was better like this. Diana, which was her second roommate was rumored to thieve that stole everything that was of value and sold it. But there was no evidence so the school could not throw her out.
Lilia on the other hand was really good at school even without studying, had a nice personality, and was all around a good roommate.
Salem began working for Talon after a week of getting used to her new school. She was working from one in the morning till one hour before school start and slept through the afternoon.
Salem's task was to brainwash whoever she was assigned to they would be delivered to her office, she received it on her first day at work. Her payment and flesh were also sent to her office and she just put a fridge in it so ahh could store it.
Time passed and Salem was getting better and better at brainwashing as she got older soon Salem was 15 Years old. She was getting wealthier and wealthier through her work.
While she got a huge pay cut because she also got paid in human flesh, she also worked her way up the ladder and by now was regularly taking part in the council meetings of Talon.
While she was not a member of the council yet, she was the leader of the brainwashing department, also jokingly called the special forces of human resources management, and needed to report her work directly to the council. What she didn't know yet was, that this was already preparation to take her in as the next council member.
Talon also decided that she would be trained as a spy, as she had a perfect memory and could recall things she saw, read, or heard perfectly and could intake the information faster than any other. Her emotionless face was also perfect for a spy.
When Salem was at the dorms she often did something with Lilia. They became friends and often went out and went looking for something to do or played some games online.
Salem also met their other roommate and what the rumors said was true. If she didn't expect something to happen she would have noticed the moment her wallet went missing. But the interesting thing was that Diana also didn't notice and after she excused herself for her doing. The explanation of why she did it was something she didn't expect.
Diana's Quirk pickpocket let her steel unconsciously and because Diana was shy, she didn't want to tell the person she stole from that she got the person's wallet, watch, or whatever so she just sold it. When Salem asked her once why she didn't just put the things in the dorms of the people while they were out she just looked at the floor and told Salem that she never got that idea. Salem didn't really care though, she was just curious.
Now that middle school ended Salem applied to the high school of the same management as her middle school. She also applied at the laboratory of a council member of Talon, or more specifically the Irish genetic, Moira O'Deorain.
She hoped to remove the limiter on her Quirk so that she could walk in Sunlight again without getting burned to a crisp. But that was far of in the future. For now, she still needed to go out in a special mantle and hat that block out Sun rays and protect her from the sun.
For now, Salem lay on the sofa in her dorm room and was bored. Normally she would go and work on something but there was nothing to work on. So she decided to do the only other thing she knew how to do really well, annoy her roommate and keep her from doing homework.
"Hey, Lilia" She shouted out across the decently sized room that would easily keep 10 to 20 people. "WHAT" Her roommate yelled back annoyed by Salem's sudden shout. "Want to play some League of Heros with me?" Salem now said in a volume that would not startle the inhabitants of the rooms around them.
"You know that we have a test tomorrow Salem and I don't have a perfect memory fucking cheater." Lilia followed Salem's example and tuned down the volume while speaking.
"The new Hero just released and is currently free to play sure you don't want to play?" Salem asked in an amused tone. While still not being able to express emotions people she spend a long time with slowly worked out how to notice in which mood she was.
"Fuck. I was considering it, but now? Na, the new Hero will probably be broken. I will just wait two months so he will at least not be that broken." Lilia dismissed Salem and turned around to her chemistry book again. "By the way do you not have to work today? I don't think you have time for another round."
Salem glanced at the clock and let out a long sigh. "You are right. Time to go to work I guess. At least I don't have to work in human resource management anymore and can leave the rest to my coworkers."
"Wait, you are out of the management department? I thought you were the boss of it or something" Lilia asked confused. "You are right I am the boss of the department but I managed to allocate my work to others so I could take something like an internship at the laboratory as long as I don't have any problems which can't be solved by my substitute," Salem replied while readying herself to leave the dorms. "Anyway, see you later," Salem said to Lilia before leaving. "Bye," Lilia said but Salem didn't heat it because she was already gone.
