Chapter 340 ( Hunt - II )

"That idiot..." - Sofia muttered with a frown, only to clench her fist in fury. She still couldn't believe how their leader had agreed to send those children on a mission with such a dangerous level - "I should have stood my ground..."

"And you're still at it..." - Tatenashi said as she appeared behind the blonde woman.

"Tatenashi..." - Sofia muttered as she looked at the blue-haired woman - "Why didn't you say anything to support me?"

"Because there was no reason to support you," Tatenashi replied calmly.

"They are children, Tatenashi! Children!" - Sophia exclaimed angrily because she couldn't understand how Houki's friend was so neutral on such a serious subject.

"First of all, they are qualified [God Eater], in other words, soldiers" - said Tatenashi seriously as she looked at the woman with her red eyes - "And soldiers follow orders."

"I repeat, they are just children!" - Sofia exclaimed angrily.

"But that doesn't matter to the higher-ups!" - Tatenashi replied coolly - "They only care that the mission is accomplished".

"Ah!" - Sofia's eyes widened in surprise when she heard this.

"I see you finally get it" - said Tatenashi as she narrowed her eyes - "You are talented as a leader, but you are too narrow-minded because you haven't seen many battlefields..."

". . ." - Sofia fell silent when she heard this as she looked at the blue-haired woman - "That..."

Tatenashi didn't say anything else, she just walked towards the room where the recruits were training so she could brief them about the new mission.

"This is great!" - Lenka exclaimed as he clenched his fist from the excitement of the situation - "We're finally going on a mission, a real one!"

"I understand how you feel, buddy!" - Kota exclaimed with a huge grin.

"First time?" - Alisa asked as she raised an eyebrow - "Whatever, let's focus on our mission for now, then you can congratulate yourselves on having your first hunting mission as a [God Eater]!"

"You're not someone who's very social, are you, Alisa-san?" - Kota said as he rolled his eyes at her.

"I came for a mission, not to make friends" - replied Alisa as she snorted disdainfully - "Now we'd better continue with our preparations, there's still a lot to do!"

With that said, the girl retreated quietly.

"She's hot, but her attitude detracts a lot of points" - muttered Kota as he shook his head - "But well, we'd better listen to her and go get our stuff ready, something tells me it's going to be a long mission"

"Ok" - nodded Lenka as he looked in the direction where Alisa had gone, then went to his room to prepare the few things he needed.

"How are your preparations, Sakuya-san?" - Houki asked as she wiped the sweat from her face dirty from the grease of the machinery she'd been checking.

"Nothing out of the ordinary," replied Sakuya as she shook her head, "I have all the medical implements ready for any accidents and the Repressors for the [Bias Factor] are already protected and ready to use. How's the machinery coming along?"

"In perfect condition, they just needed a few minor adjustments" - Houki replied as she let out a sigh, then looked at the black-haired woman - "I have to admit, you're better than I thought."

"?" - Sakuya looked at the dark brown-haired woman with confusion because she didn't understand what she was trying to say.

"I mean what happened with Cloud" - Houki said while looking at the woman straight into her black eyes - "Not just anyone can say those words you said in that situation."

"Oh, I see..." - Sakuya said as she narrowed her eyes - "Well, I'm not just any woman."

"That's good" - nodded Houki as she went back to her work.

"Tell me... You didn't feel anything when you saw him?" - Sakuya asked curiously.

Houki paused for a few seconds to look at the group nurse again, only to shake her head - "No... he's still the same, and even if he changed drastically, or the world went against him, I'd still feel the same... I'm sure Tatenashi feels the same way too."

"I see..." - Sakuya muttered as she nodded - "I'm jealous of you guys... you can say that with such confidence..."

"It's because our connection is different from the one you have with him" - replied Houki calmly as she sighed - "We accept each other with all our flaws, we know more than you think about each other, that's why no matter how things change, we'll always be together."

". . ." - Sakuya was silent for a few seconds before she frowned. Jealousy was bad, but she couldn't hide how she felt at the words of the woman in front of her.

"It's rude to eavesdrop on other people's conversations, Tsubaki-dono" - said Houki as she averted her gaze towards the door, only for a beautiful woman with long black hair to appear walking with utmost tranquility.

"And I thought my stealth skills were still in perfect condition" - said Tsubaki as she shook her head - "I guess so much time off duty made my skills decline more than I thought."

"What are you doing here?" - Sakuya asked with a frown at the sight of her friend/rival.

"Same as you, checking how the machinery is and talking some things over with Houki-san" - replied Tsubaki calmly, only to narrow her eyes - "Though I heard some interesting things..."

"What I said, it's one hundred percent true" - replied Houki calmly as she prepared to check the last vehicle - "It's up to you if you want to move forward or backward after listening to my words"

The two black-haired women frowned when they heard this, only to nod weakly.

"For the record, of the two of you, there is one person who has a clear advantage over the two of you," Houki said calmly, "And ironically, she has the least information."

"You mean that girl, Alisa?" - Sakuya asked with a frown because she couldn't make sense of the mechanic's words - "What do you mean?"

"That unlike you two who were fighting the whole time, she gathered information about Cloud and used her time to create a little connection" - replied Houki as she gave them a momentary glance before returning to her work - "She's smart, she knows she's at a disadvantage, but she's using it so she can gain ground at high speed, even though Cloud's disappearance stopped her plans momentarily"

The two black-haired women frowned when they heard this, only to look at each other with lightning flashing from their eyes.

"As for the lack of information, I'm sure that small disadvantage will change in the next few days" - Houki said without looking at the two women because she was concentrating on her work - "Tatenashi told me that he would inform his young apprentice about the general situation."

"That's not good!" - Tsubaki exclaimed with a frown - "Nothing assures us that she won't reveal the information to the Russian branch of [Fenrir] or to [Fenrir: Central] itself..."

"I know, but I trust Tatenashi" - Houki replied while looking at the [Fenrir: Far East] instructor - "I trust her with my life."

". . ." - Tsubaki was silent as she felt jealousy invade her mind. She was not only jealous of the level of relationship Cloud had with Houki and Tatenashi, but also their absolute trust between them.

"Well, if that's all, I ask you to leave, I have to check this vehicle as soon as possible," Houki said while shaking his head.

Tsubaki and Sakuya looked at each other before leaving the place, not noticing that their conversation had not gone unnoticed by someone else.

"What do you think of them, Tatenashi?" - Houki asked as she went back to working on the machinery.

"They're good, though they still have a little way to go before I can say for sure that they'll be part of the group" - replied Tatenashi, who had left Sofia to think things over in peace - "But they're on the right track, or at least they would be if they weren't so competitive and possessive..."

"You say that as if the others aren't like that," Houki snorted disdainfully, "They're much easier to handle than Saya-san."

"True, that girl is extremely possessive" - nodded Tatenashi as he let out a small laugh - "In some ways she reminds me of my younger sister even though they're not that similar."

"I guess you're just saying that because both Saya, and your sister, want to get out of the shadow of someone important to them" - replied Houki calmly.

"It's ironic that you're the one saying something like this, more so when I remember how you said you wanted to stop being 'Shinonono' Houki, Shinonono Tabane's younger sister" - said Tatenashi while looking towards the ceiling of the room - "I guess all these years made you grow up"

"I couldn't continue to act like a child when I'm 23 years old now" - replied Houki calmly - "Not to mention that all this time without being able to see her, made me realise how special Onee-sama was to me."

". . ." - Tatenashi fell silent when she heard this, only to sigh with regret that she couldn't see her younger sister, at least not for now.
