Chapter 347 ( Devour (4) )

Lindow clenched his fist in fury as he saw that his base had been completely destroyed when they arrived on the scene, only to snarl with hatred as he watched a message from [Fenrir: Far East] appear on his monitor - "Receive call."

"I don't think that's a good idea, not when you're about to explode, Lindow" - Sakuya said as she looked at her leader.

"I know, but we have no choice" - Lindow replied as he sighed regretfully. He had to calm down despite the fury he was feeling right now because he knew that if he stayed angry, it would only serve as an advantage for his opponents.

"I expected you to ignore me for a few hours, Lindow," said Johannes who had a gentle smile on his face.

"You'd better tell us what you want before we go to [Far East] to destroy you" - said Soma coldly.

"What a cruel attitude you have towards your father, son" - replied Johannes, surprising everyone but Lindow.

"Did you know that!" - Sakuya asked in surprise at seeing such a normal attitude from her leader.

"Of course I knew" - replied Lindow normally - "Cloud convinced this idiot to talk to me, not to mention that he's not his father."

". . ." - Sakuya relaxed a little before apologizing to Soma for the way she had reacted.

"You have good allies, Soma" - Johannes said seriously - "Too good."

Those present frowned when they heard this, only to look seriously at the blond man on the screen.

"Ok, I think that's enough of introductions and all that" - said Johannes as his expression turned apathetic - "I want you to hand over all the cores you collected and I promise you that I will keep Tsubaki-san safe."

The image quickly changed to one where Tsubaki was locked in an empty room.

"Keep safe?" - Tatenashi asked with a frown - "Shouldn't you say something like 'and I will deliver them to you in perfect condition'?"

"Normally I'd say something like that, but let's just say she's not only a firm leash for you, but also for [Calamity]" - Johannes replied with a huge grin.

"!" - Lindow and the other members who knew about the situation widened their eyes in surprise, but quickly relaxed.

"At least this confirms our hypothesis" - thought Houki while frowning.

"That's why I apologise for not handing Tsubaki-san over to you" - finished Johannes while waiting for the response of the [First Unit].

"I think you didn't take into account a small detail" - said Tatenashi while her red eyes glowed with mischief - "You have to keep Tsubaki-san safe in order to save yourself from [Calamity], that means that it is not necessary for us to hand over the [Cores] to you"

"Good point" - Johannes said as he nodded, only for his expression to change to a cold and hate-filled one - "But [Calamity] doesn't know that I have her in my possession, that means I just need to keep her alive."

Tatenashi was silent when she heard this because she hadn't thought about it.

"My subordinates might have fun with her, after all, Tsubaki-san is a betting woman" - Johannes continued as his smile grew as he noticed the expressions of those present - "Ok, enough of the games, I will keep my end of the bargain as long as you deliver the [Cores] to me and I hope it will be quick."

With that said, Johannes cut the call, leaving a stony silence in the place.

"We have no choice but to accept that bastard's orders" - Sakuya growled without a second thought.

"I agree, we can't let anything happen to Tsubaki-san" - nodded Houki while supporting the words of the short black-haired woman.

"Thank you" - Lindow said quietly.

"I'm sorry for almost making the negotiation change for the worse" - said Tatenashi as she ducked her head in shame.

"No, I understand what you were trying to do" - Lindow replied as he clenched his right fist with all his might - "As a leader, I understand that it was a good idea, but as a brother".

"I know, you don't have to say it" - replied Tatenashi as she shook her head - "I have a sister too so I understand the situation"

"For now we'll go to [Fenrir: Far East]" - Soma said neutrally while gritting his teeth as he remembered what just happened.

"Calm down, you're not your father" - said Sofia as she tried to comfort the brown-skinned young man, though this didn't work.

"Not only am I a monster, but I'm the son of a much bigger monster" - thought Soma as he felt a dark aura surround his person.

"Come on" - said Lindow as he looked around - "As for you cadets, we have no choice but to take you with us, though when we get to [Fenrir: Central], you will stay there."

"Ok" - muttered Lenka simply because he didn't want to gain the attention of his 'senpais' when they were in such a bad mood.

* * * * *

Cloud frowned as he felt a bad feeling invade his insides. He slowly looked around to make sure there was nothing strange, only to shake his head when he noticed that everything was as it should be.

"Is something wrong, Onii-san?" - Shio asked as she tilted her head in confusion.

"I feel like something bad just happened" - Cloud replied with annoyance - "But I think it's my own stuff."

"I don't think so" - replied Shio as she shook her head - "The stronger we are, the sharper and more accurate our instincts are, that means something bad really did just happen."

Cloud frowned as he tried to look around again, only to notice that there was still nothing strange - "We'd better continue our journey, it won't be long before we can reach our goal".

[Hill of the End], a place inhabited by a huge amount of high-risk [Aragami], the perfect place for these beasts to continuously evolve.

"Eat or be eaten, that's the rule of [Hill of the End]." - Shio said as she shrugged - "Though this is no surprise to anyone, not when this happens everywhere in the world."

[True] - nodded [Yan Zhi] as she raised her wings. She had managed to evolve enough to be able to communicate with her older sister and master after consuming at least 10 [Hera].

"I'm surprised that the only apparent change other than the ability to communicate with us, is that your feathers are now an electric blue colour" - said Shio as she looked curiously at her little sister who ironically was much bigger than her.

[Her power has also grown] - said Cloud calmly as [Yan Zhi] flapped her wings happily at her master's compliments.

[Thank you very much for your words, master!]" - Yan Zhi] said as she gave a small bow. She was aware of how fast she had evolved thanks to being under the wings of her almighty leader.

Cloud shook his head as he noticed how [Yan Zhi] was becoming more and more 'dependent' on him with every evolution she had.

"If she keeps this up, she'll become a pain in the ass in the future" - Cloud thought as he felt a huge migraine appear in his head - "Ugh, is this the reason for this bad feeling?"

Cloud gave [Yan Zhi] a discreet glance, only to notice how 'she' was looking at him with stars in her 'eyes'.

"Ugh, it's strange that I can see how she has an expectant look even though her eyes are being covered by that sort of feathered helmet" - Cloud thought as he shook his head, only to notice a detail that left him confused for a few seconds - "[Yan Zhi], did you shrink?"

[Now that you mention it sir, I feel like I'm a lot smaller than before] - [Yan Zhi] replied in confusion - [Although at the same time I feel a lot faster].

". . ." - Cloud frowned when he saw this, only to shake his head - "We'd better get on with our journey, it's not long before we reach [End Hill] and something tells me things are about to get crazy."

"I don't think it's much of a problem for us, not when we have you, Cloud" - Shio said with a smile - "Right, [Yan Zhi]?"

[My lord is invincible!"] - [Yan Zhi] exclaimed as she spread her wings - [By the way, Onee-sama. Why don't you fight].

"Because my body is different from yours" - replied Shio while shaking her head - "This one you see here, is just a crystallization of my core."

"What do you mean by that?" - Cloud asked with a frown.

"That my current form, is my core" - replied Shio as she looked at the dragon.

"Wait! Are you telling me that your entire body is your [Core]?!" - Cloud exclaimed in surprise as he looked at the white-haired girl.

"Exactly, my original body is on the moon" - replied Shio while looking up at the sky - "Ironically, by leaving my [Aragami] body behind, I managed to acquire the abilities of a [God Eater], although this at the same time makes my energy consumption massive, that's why I have to keep eating or my body will fall into a deep coma and I will have no choice but to summon my real body in order to become one again."

[Is that the ultimate evolution of our species?] - asked [Yan Zhi] while 'frowning'.

"No" - replied Shio while shaking her head - "The ultimate evolution is to make our human core devour our [Aragami] body".
