Chapter 521 ( Cologne - I )

"Are you sure it's okay for us to accompany him, Kite-san?" - Gon asked as they were on their way to their destination in a normal plane.

"I don't think it's the time to say that when we're already halfway there" - Killua replied as he devoured all the goodies he had bought to enjoy on the flight - "What's a pity, though, is that Leorio had to go back to medical school, and that Kurapika had to continue his mission to find the eyes of his clan members."

"At least they learned a lot of things in a short time, I guess their teacher is quite a talented person because his foundation is solid" - Kite said calmly as he took the documents his teacher had sent him.

He slowly closed his eyes as he recalled the events.

Gon had been surprised to hear that his father was calling Kite just as he was nearby, and asked if he could talk to him.

Kite agreed immediately, but not before asking Ging's permission, who agreed after a few minutes of thinking about it.

He did so because this would be a good opportunity to talk to his son, whom he had not seen for many years, and to see how much willpower he had.

Ging had left his son with his sister because his life was too dangerous to be able to take him with him, not to mention that a nomadic life was not something a child could endure in all those hostile climates.

Gon quickly told his father everything he had done, his adventures, as well as how strong he had become.

Ging wouldn't lie, he was surprised and proud to hear about his son's enormous potential, though at the same time he felt bad that he hadn't been there to see it, and would make no excuses for trying to defend himself, he had failed as a father and there was no doubt about it.

Killua just kept silent as he listened to his friend talk to his father, only to remember the woman he met on [Whale Island].

Kite also stood on the sidelines until he watched as the boy walked in his direction with his phone - "Are you done?"

"Yes, now I know what I have to do" - Gon replied firmly.

"That's good to hear" - Kite replied as he looked up at the sky - "I had a hard time deciding what to do, but you, it looks like you've already found your destiny."

Gon smiled happily as he continued to train his skill because it was still not completely polished.

Killua smiled when he saw that things hadn't changed, so he quickly walked to his friend and started training beside him.

Kite watched this with a smile because it had been a while since he had seen such pure camaraderie as the boys.

"Mr. Kite?" - Gon asked curiously.

Kite slowly opened his eyes and looked at his master's son, only to shake his head - "It's nothing, I was just remembering the past."

His memories quickly disappeared, showing that he was still sitting in the plane, waiting to be able to reach his destination.

"What kind of mission was it that you were assigned?" - Killua asked curiously - "Is it dangerous?"

"Potentially lethal" - Kite replied calmly.

"Potentially?" - Killua repeated as he frowned - "Does that mean we have no knowledge of the level of danger?"

"Exactly, that's why they sent me, I have experience in this kind of situation, not to mention that it's a good experience for you" - replied Kite as he picked up a magazine and started flipping through it, only to frown when he saw a news item about disappearances of people in the area where they were going.

"But, don't we know anything?" - Killua asked as he tried to look at the magazine Kite was holding.

"Yes I have information, so I know more or less what I'm dealing with, not to mention that there is already a hunter on site to inform us" - replied Kite while shaking his head - "The problem is that his information is a bit strange so to speak".

"Did he write something strange?" - Gon asked confused.

"You could say so" - nodded Kite as he frowned.

"What are we up against?" asked Killua with a frown.

"Remember the Chimera Ant?" - Kite asked as the two boys nodded - "Remember what we were talking about?"

"What those insects were powerful, but harmless to humans?" - Gon asked as he cocked his head to the side.

"Exactly, well, if the responsible hunter's message is true, then they are now potentially dangerous to mankind" - replied Kite seriously as he looked around in search of someone who was listening to them, but the plane was almost completely empty, and the other customers were sitting quite far away.

"I don't understand" - said Gon as he frowned.

"I mean that where we are going, it is possible that there is a Queen Chimera Ant, of a size that makes it potentially dangerous" - Kite answered seriously - "If one of those things were at least, the size of a normal person, then we would be facing a threat that could cause the extinction of all life if we don't do things correctly."

Killua's eyes widened because he understood what he was trying to say.

"If one of those things can consume creatures twice their size and create offspring with the characteristics of their prey, then if they eat humans" - Killua said quietly as Gon was surprised.

Kite nodded weakly because that's what he was talking about - "Exactly, chimera ants with the mental capacity of a person, superior adaptive ability, and possibly the ability to be able to reproduce like mammals."

Killua was silent as he felt a cold sweat run down his back.

"That's why I said that this, that I said that the danger level is a potential extinction level" - Kite continued seriously as he closed his eyes - "The moment we prove that they can reproduce as humans or other humanoid species, then the situation will escalate to an unimaginable level because just by one of those things escaping, we would be facing a highly invasive species to the ecosystem"

Killua kept his head down as he took a deep breath - "I understand, if things are that serious, I understand why they sent you, but I don't understand something, why just you?"

"I wonder the same thing myself, this level of potential danger, it should be handled by the [Zodiac]" - Kite replied with a frown as he started to think - "Ging-san should know about this, but they're acting strangely indecisive, they even only sent one member of that group, and she's not even one of the strongest."

"It's like they want this to explode" - Killua said coldly - "Do they even want those things to expand indefinitely?"

"I don't know, that's why when we arrive, we have to contact the allied hunters and gather more information about the situation" - said Kite seriously as he closed his eyes and remembered the information his master had given him about his contact - "We also have to be careful with that hunter because Ging-san said he was potentially dangerous"

"Why would they send someone dangerous into a situation as dire as our current situation?" - Killua asked curiously.

"I have no idea, maybe they didn't know he was a danger until recently, though it's best we don't think about such things" - said Kite while shaking his head - "Not to mention that it's not a good idea for us to take the words of others at face value because we never know how truthful this information is"

"Following rumors, or opinions of others, is not always beneficial" - nodded Killua because he knew how lethal it was for an assassin, to receive false information, that's why his family always checked first how true this information was in order to prevent accidents or traps.

"Well, we'll soon find out everything, so for now rest" - said Kite calmly as the plane slowly flew towards its destination.

Two hours later, the trio was walking outside the airport, waiting for one of their contacts to show up, although Kite wasn't sure how true this was because this place had an almost complete technological lockdown, that meant no one could use phones, cameras or even television to be able to transmit news.

The small group waited a few minutes until they saw a familiar silhouette appear in the place.

"Huh? Gon, Killua, what are you doing here?" - Menchi asked in surprise when she saw the two young hunters, then looked at Kite - "You brought them with you on a dangerous mission?"

"It's a good experience for them, not to mention that this was authorized by their parents" - answered Kite calmly.

"Did you talk to Ging-san?" - Menchi asked as she looked at Gon, who nodded at her question - "I see, though I have to warn you that this is much more dangerous than you think, not only civilian lives have been lost, but also hunters who had been investigating the area before we arrived."

"Does that mean the one in charge, is Cloud-san?" - Killua asked as he cocked his head to the side.

"Yes, now let's go, we have to inform them everything we need to" - said Menchi as she indicated for them to follow her.
