Chapter 610 ( Reunion - III )

"Survive" - muttered the heroes as they nodded firmly - "Survive!"

Rika nodded calmly as she watched as the boy who had spoken, was trembling with fear - "I hope you really aren't a traitor, because if that's the case, then I won't have to be the one to kill you!"

The heroes looked at their companion with a frown before slowly walking away.

The boy who had spoken could only feel tears running down his cheeks as he saw how he was being isolated, which scared him because if this kept up, his safety would be compromised. He quickly tried to turn around and look at his former friends, only to notice how they seemed to have mixed feelings - "Guys."

"Sorry" - muttered one of his friends as he took a step back - "I want to trust you, but it's hard with the current situation."

The others also decided to wash their hands before they started discussing what they would do now that they had decided to go all the way.

Rika watched this with a frown as she left the meeting place to support Shizuku, who was probably tired from defending the front.

Kaori watched the new group interaction with a frown before deciding to walk to the boy.

"Shirasaki-san?" - The boy asked as he looked at the black-haired girl with a forlorn expression.

"Are you a traitor?" - Kaori asked as she looked the boy straight in the eyes.

"N-No!" - exclaimed the boy as he began to cry - "I..."

Kaori kept looking at the boy before frowning because she felt like he was telling the truth, but at the same time it seemed like he was hiding something - "Is there something you don't want to tell us?"

The boy bit his lip as he felt all his classmates look at him seriously, but despite the pressure he felt, he still didn't say a word.

"Listen, if you're not a traitor, then you just have to tell us what's going on, if you can't do that, then don't expect us to trust you" - Ryutaro said - "We've already suffered too many betrayals to have to watch our backs because we have suspicions of a traitor."

The boy sighed before ducking his head in despair.

Kaori found this increasingly strange, after all, if he were a traitor, he would be doing everything he could to try and convince us that he wasn't, but the boy was here, not saying a word and increasingly earning the suspicions of his companions. It was obvious that the others thought he was another traitor, so there was no way to save himself anymore unless he said he wasn't and explained what it was he was hiding, but he wasn't doing that.

"Come on, let's leave him alone" - said a boy as the former friends of the desperate boy, just sighed before following the "herd".

"I don't know what's so important that you can't defend yourself, but I hope it's worth it" - said Ryutaro with hostility, after all, his best friend was unconscious because of one of these traitors.

Kaori gave him a look before shaking her head in denial. She had tried to give him one last chance, but it seemed that this boy had not accepted it.

The boy sighed regretfully before feeling his body tremble after seeing how he was now alone.

"My master found this situation, slightly amusing, though it's a pity that your services are no longer needed" - said a neutral voice, which didn't seem to come from a man or a woman - "You only had to fan the flames a bit for despair to invade the inside of your companions, but it seems that you overreacted and your true identity was exposed."

"I did what you told me!" - exclaimed the boy with tears in his eyes as he watched his chest glow slightly - "Now I've lost everything!"

"That's not our problem" - replied the neutral voice as the boy was beginning to lose his composure - "You were the one who made the mistake, now you're the one who has to pay the consequences, but since you entertained my master, I guess the least I can do, is to give you a quick and painless death!"

"I don't want to die!" - exclaimed the boy as the light in his chest glowed brighter and brighter - "I didn't want to betray my companions, I was only forced to do so because I would be killed if I didn't follow your instructions!"

It was as if the boy was trying to confess in a last attempt to be saved, but to his despair, no one was around to be able to hear him, and even if they did, there was no way they could help him because the neutral voice was already acting.

The boy began to feel everything around him distort before he completely lost consciousness. The light on his chest began to flicker before disappearing completely along with the last beat of his heart.

One of the boy's friends decided to go back to ask his friend something, but let out a scream of terror when he saw how his former friend was on the ground, clutching his chest with a vacant stare.

The heroes quickly went back to see what was going on, only to see Rika approach the body and take his pulse with a frown.

"Rika-san?" - Kaori asked forlornly.

"I'm sorry, but he's dead" - Rika replied as she looked around with a frown - "And from the expression on his face, it wasn't natural, he was terrified and looking towards the door, so it's obvious that someone killed him, possibly to silence him or prevent him from being linked to someone else."

The heroes looked at each other apprehensively because not only did they have another traitor among their ranks, but he was an assassin who could attack them at any moment.

"Relax, I'm sure he's not a traitor" - Rika said as she looked around - "I was near the entrance at all times, and no one entered the room before they found the corpse."

"Does that mean the person who found him is the killer?" - A girl asked as she moved as far away as possible from the boy who was doing his best to defend himself.

"No, he's not the culprit, it wouldn't make sense" - answered Rika with a frown - "I'm almost completely sure, that the person responsible killed him from a distance, maybe with magic or it's even possible that the secret that he couldn't reveal, is the reason for his death."

"Are you saying that someone had put something inside him that caused him to die now that he was discovered?" - Asked a girl who liked to watch this kind of programs on TV, that was why she had learned some useless tricks from them, like being able to reason and read between the lines.

"It's possible, in fact, the probability of this being the case, is quite high" - answered Rika while nodding. She had seen some victims who had been forced to cooperate in crimes by random situation, and they all seemed to show a similar expression to the boy who had just passed away, though she had forgotten this because it wasn't important to the overall situation they were in.

The heroes looked at each other in despair, because if Rika's words were true, then they had been accidentally complicit in the murder of one of their comrades.

"Relax, I'm sure we'll find out the truth in the future, so don't worry for now, remember that we have to survive in order to discover the truth" - Rika answered seriously.

The heroes nodded before leaving the room again, but not before looking at their dead colleague.

"We're about to arrive" - Cloud said as he looked around. The group had finally reached their destination, and from what he could see, it was obvious that a huge battle had begun on the spot.

Fragments of burnt rocks, destroyed ruins, corpses of soldiers and monsters everywhere, and a powerful smell of blood.

Endou was silent as he surveyed the surroundings with regret because it was obvious that the havoc was more than he thought - "Please, let everyone be alright."

Cloud looked around with a frown as he asked Yue and Tio to check the surroundings.

Yue gave a high jump and started levitating as he looked at everything in the distance.

Tio closed her eyes and started using mana pulses so she could detect possible hidden enemies, though after a few seconds she couldn't sense anything in the vicinity - "Possibly they're deeper in the maze?"

"I see smoke in the distance, and being a small magic pulse" - Yue replied with a frown - "Maybe they're still fighting"

"Then let's go as fast as possible" - Cloud replied neutrally as he summoned his military vehicle - "Let's get this over with once and for all"

"OK!" - nodded the two girls as they got in.

Endou went after them, only to let out a small cry of surprise when he saw how fast the blond's vehicle was.
