"Please, I have to go home." That's what I told the man in front of me. I begged him to let me go, but in my heart, I pray he never will. 

How crazy is that? How can I feel safer with a stranger I've just met than the man who was supposed to love me until death? Why does he look at me like I'm the most beautiful thing in the world? Does he see the bruises? Is that why he's doing this?

I should've never left the house, but I couldn't let him win. Not this time, but I hadn't counted on this.

It took less time than I'd feared to find proof of what Aurora told Nefera. I knew Nefera was good at getting people to spill their guts, but this was another level. Something about her made everyone want to tell her their deepest secrets. You felt safe telling her things you wouldn't confide in anyone else. At least, that's how I'd felt when I told her about my past.

Still, I wasn't overjoyed at the fact I'd woken up to Penelope crying, only to find Nefera missing. Not that I mind taking care of my pup, but it bothered me that I hadn't felt her leave. My body was attuned to hers, even when we were sleeping, so being that exhausted irritates me. That feeling didn't improve when I discovered where she was and what she was doing. I hadn't expected to find Nefera on top of Aurora like she was ready to kill her.
