Nefretiri
Nothing was comforting about what they said, but I couldn't see who or what they were.
I tried to find them but failed. I didn't know if that was because they had no physical form or if my human mind couldn't comprehend them. Were they gods? They felt unearthly, but did that mean they were divine? If you'd asked me an hour ago, I would've said I wasn't sure that gods were what the stories told, but now… I'm not so sure. Was I willing to question it further?
"She's broken," A new voice sang, bumping me like dolphins in the water. "Her soul is scattered."
Was it me, or did it sound disappointed?
"She did it to herself." I couldn't decipher if they were male or female. They kept changing. For all I knew, only one voice spoke in different tones. "She splintered them into eight. Stuck between heaven and earth. Not enough to sew back together with what's left."
