  From the chaos outside, I had the impression that Jack had already met some of the intruders. But no doubt the idiot hadn't noticed the circle of them closing in from everywhere, but I did. I finished tying up the thin metal strings zig zagging down the hall. Jack's toys and mine meshed well together. At least some of them anyway.

  I turned the little device on and the hallway hummed softly. I'd have to be loud enough they didn't notice that.

  A man burst through the front doors, wheezing and covered in blood. His long black hair had been half torn by clumps from his head. He looked up, meeting my eyes. "At least you have clothes on," he grumbled.
