Chapter 46

  Paxton

Time passed as she slept. Her head pillowed on her hands. Her long black hair framing her face. Her pale skin slowly regained color. Hopefully, that meant she would wake soon.

  My mate.

I'd never considered having one before. But she'd wandered into my life and I'd had no chance against her. I'd gotten what I wanted most of all, Dominic's death. The man that had tormented me my entire life was gone. It's what I thought I'd wanted most of all, but now even that had changed.

She whimpered in her sleep, body shivering. I grabbed the worn quilt that my guard had thrown into the cell and covered her with it as best as I could. She smiled, leaning into my warmth. If she wasn't careful, I'd end up in bed with her again. My skin sang from every place we connected. It didn't hurt that I had her all to myself. The others weren't around, I wouldn't have to share her for who knows how long.
