  "Princess," he growled the word like it was a curse or maybe a prayer? "You have to stop."

  I ignored him and continued working. His back was a mess. The cuts that had been left behind by the whip went deep into his flesh. I tended each one as tenderly as I could but he continued to moan.

  How could anyone do this to another human being? "I'm so sorry," I whispered.

  Damon grunted. "Please, you can't be doing this. It's dangerous."

  I frowned, leaning over to understand what he was talking about when the door flew open and thudded against the wall.

  I jerked to an upright position and glanced over to see what was going on. Magnus stood in the doorway his eyes narrowed on the two of us. "I didn't want to believe her," he sneered at me.

  "What are you talking about?" I demanded. I turned to go back to my work.

  "Princess," Damon's tone was almost a plea now. "Please, I can take care of my own injuries."
