I swallow hard and squeeze my eyes shut. “Yeah because you’re killing me here.” My voice becomes huskier.
She stands from my lap, this time I let her. I rub my face with my hands and release a deep breath.
“Stop saying like that. I need to go home anyway.” She checks her phone.
“I will send you just wait until I calm a bit.”
She looks at me with a query look. “Did you forget I have my car down? And you rode to school with Garrett.”
“And so? Can’t I send you? I’ll drive your car, then I’ll call a cab to get back home.”
She laughs. “I’ll be fine, Phoenix. I’ll let you know if I get home safe.”
I grab her hand. “Not so fast, always stubborn. It’s the right thing to do to send my date home, but I won’t insist. You might change your mind and text me that you don’t want to see me again.”
She smiles. “I would definitely do that.” She then moves her face closer to mine, then kisses my nose, and I think it’s sweet.
