Chapter 27

I still remember Mom made horrible sandwiches. I and dad wrinkled our noses because we couldn’t eat how horrible the taste was. We had to drop by the nearest McDonald's to buy burgers and fries before going home from the park.

“What’s the story behind that tree, Phoenix?” I point to the tree a few wards from the patio.

He smirks and wiggles his brows. “Are you sure you wanna know, princess?”

“What’s with the smirks and wiggling?”

“I stole Hawk’s magazine collections under his bed. I hid on that tree just to look at the magazines. We may be closer in age, but he was bigger and taller than me at that time.”

“I don’t wanna know about those magazines if he had to keep them under his bed, and you naughty boy had to steal from him just to see.”

He laughs out loud. We both sit on the loveseat while he shared his life growing up.
