Distractions Would Work

During the part of lunch where everyone said a little bit about themselves, Jenna felt awkward about using her cover story. Especially since she got a lot of sympathy for her non-existent husband's death.

She didn't need sympathy for that. She needed sympathy for losing her entire life to the Witness Protection Program but she wasn't about to get that since she had to keep her mouth shut about it.

But, truthfully, it was better not to get any sympathy at all because that put a crack in the delicate balance of her emotions. She barely managed to hold it together while talking about her fake husband because it reminded her that her real love may as well be dead since she couldn't be with him.

After lunch, they headed back to class and this time they all sat together in the back row. Jenna was forcefully reminded of her freshman year of college when she did this with Jonas and some others making snarky comments.
